Norman Virus Control won't start up

I’ve had this problem for some time for now.

After installing the NVidia Display Driver, which lead into an one annoying error (Out of Frequency on monitor.) After I managed to fix the display error, I noticed that the Norman Virus Control wouldn’t start up. It either doesn’t appear on the taskbar or it reads “Installation being updated…” when rolled over. When I try to run it through the Windows Security Center or through Start-up Menu it won’t help.

I tried their DeInvc5 tool I found here :
https://www.norman.com/support/support_issue_archive/67827/en
which didn’t help at all.

The program came with the computer, so I don’t have any CDs for it. To be quite true, the program also seems to stink. Every single warning it has ever given (there are lots of them) was a false positive.

I also e-mailed them (Norman) about a week ago and still no answer. I’ll probably try contacting the computer manufactor next.

Norman? Sounds like a Norton ripoff… you sure it’s an actual antivirus :stuck_out_tongue: ?

Just uninstall it and get a real antivirus. AVG is free and works very well and doesn’t eat CPU much.

I agree

I also agree. Get AVG.

I’ve never heard of it, and I think that’s your problem. It’s quite blatantly a ripoff of Norton (Norton itself is terrible anyway, but by far the most popular).

Believe me, I think it’s for the best that it isn’t working.

You might want to try another (free) antivirus such as AVG, Bitdefender or Avira.

Partially wrong. Norton Internet Security is crap. Norton 360 is good.

The server and large scale anti-virus they make are a lot better. The problem with their home security is that they modeled it off their original large scale model, and it doesn’t cross over well in the slightest.

I’ll probably go with the AVG or Avast!

All those computer manufactors just tend to clog their computers with free trial-version crap or something similar. (Nero 8, Microsoft Office, etc. all trials)

I’ll also try getting the serial number off the program just for incase.

If you’re going for free, go for AVG, if you’re willing to pay, go for Kaspersky.

Agreed. :freeman:

If it’s anything based on Norton or if it’s Norton itself, it’s a virus itself since it deosn’t do anything other than being there to make your life miserable.

I installed the AVG and I am now happy soul.

Make sure to disable the LinkScanner component… unless you fail miserably at surfing the web.
That thing can make your page loading awfully slow.
