No Third Person Model?

So while there is no third person model, is it possible to implement a custom one, and if so, how?

Of course it’s possible, but it wouldn’t really be worth the effort.

As far as I know, I haven’t seen anyone else asking. If it has been answered before, please, do feel free to provide me the link of the post.

Anyway, I’ve noticed that someone has a somewhat jury-rigged co-op mod, and he asks to install a player model, but I don’t know what exact files to put into the Player folders - there’s a bunch of .vtx and .phy files, but can I simply rename them all to player and it’ll be set?

what happened to this model??

It’s a FPS, First Person Shooter, not a TPS, Third Person Shooter :fffuuu:

But maybe they can add legs and and body to the FPS model, cause almost in every game it seems like the player has just a floating head

I shall now quote a very wise man.

In BM Deathmatch they will be forced to create some character models and put weapon animations anyway, so I suppose they could implement it in singleplayer as well.

I don’t think that it’s necessary, since you can’t see yourself without cheats anyway.
The only possible reason to have a model that I can think of is when you die, so you can see what happens to your body… But it’s not really needed

Player models are for Deathmatch.

Bottom line.

That was just a random person’s project, if I remember correctly.

It was by FreemanBG

That’s curious, in the old forums I asked the developers if Gordon was going to have legs (i believe it was 2007 or 2008 [I was using another account though] ) and the answer was a reasonable “No”.

Edit: Also there’s a reason for that, which I guess is about immersion in a weird way. I mean, you only use your arms and hands to control Gordon [mouse+keyboard] , so technically those are the only body parts your Gordon has. If gordon had feets I think maybe the player would realize “he’s not Gordon”.

In the original HL1, Gordon has a working model of himself. The interesting part is, you can use thirdperson mode and witness that the player not being able to see Gordon’s legs was a design choice, rather than laziness of Valve. How? Just aim downwards while in thirdperson mode and you’ll witness an flying/floating Gordon Freeman not seeing he’s feet.

yeah post a list with reasons why not!
God damn… and they all call themselves a community roll eyes
Yeah stops the evolution and the creative spirit!
Thousands of dislikes for you all!

Thumps Up!

I don’t really know if third person view would fit in Black Mesa, but something that would be nice would be legs, many shooter games have legs, its just a lot o more realistic that way, and it is POSSIBLE in source. The guys that made the 1187 mod made legs for their character.

Though it’s possible, they’ve decided not to do it.

idk if anyone knows this yet but you can for real change the player model to what ever you want i have zatsune miku but the only problem you’ll have is trying to figure out how to fix and get the animations to work with the new model of your choice which i’m trying to figure out and need help on

BAM.

Having a Gordon Model and having him properly animated (also including holding weapons, climbing ladders etc.) would allow for shooting a movie in the game. That would of course be interesting.

But the game itself would not benefit from that - the game should be played, not watched.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
