A meme must work its way to top on nothing but a penny. You must hope that your penny catches the eye of a curious traveler and decides to pick it up and show it to all of his friends. Afterwards, you must hope his friends spread the knowledge of that penny and make up stories of how it came into your possession or how it came into being at all. Then it shall spread far among the masses and you will have achieved what you have so long sought for.
The wrong way of doing it is taking that penny and pegging everyone you see in the head with it. Sure, they’ll take notice of it, but it will be more annoying than funny.
