New iPod

Okay so I got a new iPod nano for my bday, and it is replacing my 5 year old iPod mini. What I want to do is transfer my music from the old one to the new one. Crazy idea, huh? Well, apple doesn’t like that kind of radical thinking. Since my old iPod is older than my computer and this computer has even undergone a few reformats, the library doesn’t have my music in it. The copy-pasting the hidden files on the old one to the new one doesn’t work, because as soon as I try that it encounters an error: “Cannot copy: Parameter is incorrect.” I have no idea what that means, so… I also tried an ‘ipod 2 ipod’ 3rd party program, but I needed to pay $40 for that. It let me get 100 songs out of it first, but once I checked it it didn’t even work right, my new iPod was still empty. Halp? :frowning:

A couple of freeware apps that might help:

Copy pasting the old files definitely won’t work because they use different firmware, and copy pasting the music won’t work either because apple makes sure that taking the music off your ipod isn’t an easy process.

Winamp Winamp Winamp

limeware is your friend.

Limeware isn’t helping anyone, and limewire isn’t that great either. Use a real p2p program.

Guys, I don’t want to download 4 GB of music all over again. I’ll check out those freeware programs, but if they don’t work, someone suggested that I might be able to talk to an apple ‘genius’ person at the Apple store if I present my situation to them.

HA! No.

The man speaks the truth, and clearly, for once! Really, the current versions of Winamp have tweaked iPod syncing…err, apparently. I haven’t plugged mine in for ages :stuck_out_tongue: .

iPod sucks balls. Trade it in for Archos.

GTFO deathmonkey.

This is why iPods suck. You can transfer your whole collection of media onto any computer with a Zune. All you need to have on your computer is the Zune software and that’s available for free from the web.

EDIT : Plus you dont even need to have the Zune’s USB cable with you to transfer stuff. You can do it using it’s inbuilt Wi-Fi.

I would rather have an ipod mini than your new nano, because the mini can be hacked to run linux, play mp3’s like a normal player and play b/w videos.

Yeah Zune FTFW.

Don’t you know that every mp3 player (other than zune and ipod) doesn’t require any software installation to copy songs/files? :3

Actually, you can install linux on nearly every ipod.

And linux sux.

you can’t install it on any of the new ones (after ipod video 80gb)

And linux itself is not the point, you can run emulators and arcade games on it.

That’s very important.
