New HDTV?

Hey I just got a nice home theater, but I want to upgrade to a nice HDTV. I need 27 inches. I doesnt have to be LCD. Any suggestions?

EDIT: Is there a difference between plasma and flatscreen? If there is which is better? It’s going in a TV cabinet, not on the wall.

27 inches is a “television”. Home “theater”, IMHO, requires a projector.

Flatscreen is kind of a tricky word, because it can be used to refer to a flat-panel TV (like an HDTV), or a tube TV with a flat screen as opposed to the old fashioned curved screen. Just stick with calling it HDTV.

Now then, plasma and LCD are the two main types of HDTVs, and its debated which one is better. This site explains some of the advantages of disadvantages of each, although the differences are becoming less and less noticeable as each technology improves.

If you want my recommendation, for a good price/performance ratio, go with Vizio. IMO, their TVs look awesome, and they are generally priced quite a bit lower than similar TVs of other brands.

I have an LG, works well, LCD, and kicks ass. Works for me.

I use my 27" iMac as TV, but my parents have a 52" Philips LCD-TV (9000 Series, LED backlit, ambilight). It’s big, it’s shiny, it has pretty picture.

Anyway, when plasma-TVs just came out, the main issue was its lifespan. Because Plasma is gas, that gas slowly dissolves over time (that used to be like 3-4 years, but I guess that lifespan has been increased by now).

Thanks guys! so I should check out vizio?

needa high res for to inspect my “zones” if you know hwat i mean

I’ve seen a few VIZIO tv’s and they are fine, just the menu system is terrible, good luck changing inputs if you lose the remote.
