New graphics card + old power box, any solution?

Ok here’s the deal, I acquired this video card, and I want to put it in my pc

But I have a cheap crappy thermaltake 430W psu that only delivers 350w, I have like 3 other power supplies though and I think it’s electrically possible to wire the other PSU’s to the 6pin plugs on the card (yes it has two of them).

When I put the card in my PC and use only my main PSU there’s a red light on the card probably telling me that the card is lacking power, it runs but only allows the generic VGA driver to run, so clearly it’s not getting enough power.

Anything I can do besides buying a new PSU? :fffuuu:

(p.s. please ignore the date on the camera, it resets when I turn it off, and this card wasn’t out in 2007, so…)

Buy a PSU.

Do you mean plugging them in series so there’s like the power of 3 PSU going into one? Or do you mean having to separates PSUs, and having one that powers the HDDs, one that powers the boards and one that powers the VC? I know the second option is possible, but the first I don’t know.

Troll harder.:meh:

I mean directly plugging the PSU to the card, I don’t even know how to make a 4pin-6pin adapter, that’s why I made this thread.

I know how to turn the powerbox on without a PC, you have to short the green wire with any black wire, I learned that a long time ago.

Something like this?

PSU’s aren’t that expensive…

Besides, your so hardcore Sersoft, maybe you should just steal one.

You think you’re a better person than me but you’re telling me to steal, I assure you I wouldn’t get caught if I stole one.

link doesn’t tell me how to make one myself lol.

Just buy a friggin’ new PSU.

If you deside to buy a new psu. Don’t buy the cheap ones, they can destroy all your hardware. Go for a good brand corsair, antec or something like that.

Telling you to buy a new PSU isn’t trolling. The thread shoulda ended there, because that was probably the best advice.

Buy a new PSU.
.

Just buy that one, is what he’s trying to say. Its cheaper than buying a PCU if you don’t want to spend a lot of money.

I’ve seen some of those PSUs in my time they have a bit of a reputation for poor ripple performance, and their amps on the 12V rail are astoundingly low. for a PSU with the cost per Watt, you’d think it would be better.

You can get a 4 pin power dongle, to PCIexpress power adapter for pretty cheap at any shop. But a lot of people with newer graphics cards have extras (they send one with most new cards). I myself have about 10 of 'em. This may not fix the fact that your PSU doesn’t push the amps it needs to to get that card running though. I guess it’s worth a shot though.

Well, if you have 10 of them, can you make a drawing that shows where the cables go? I have molex plugs and pcie plugs, but I dunno how to make an adapter.

edit: made one myself while looking at that picture, it doesn’t change anything, sucks that the card has two pcie plugs, I only have one adapter. My secondary psu is only 250w so I don’t think it would work if I plug both of the pcie connectors to it, and I don’t want to use three PSU’s for one card.

My primary PSU is 18A, 12V, the other PSU is 14A, 12V, the internet says I need a powerbox with atleast 30A on the 12v for that card to work properly.

Well sir…it looks like you are going shopping for a new PSU.

As a reasonably cheap option I’d suggest a SeaSonic SS-500ET.

For something a little bit more, if ya can…Either the CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX, or SeaSonic SS-550HT 550W. Both should be around 100 bucks.

lol that’s what my friend bought before he gave me his old 430w psu.

Sarcasm bro.

Nah, I’ll get a job soon so I guess I’ll live with my old 8800GT until then. I wish there was a workaround though.

Weren’t you the one who told me that the 9800 GTX+ sucks?

Anyways, the only way is to get a new PSU. That’s what I had to do.

Anyone will say the 9 series is inferior.

The 8 series is way better and the 200 is as well.

I didn’t have much time to shop for cards, it’s just how it works.
