It really sounds like they’re taking everything that was wrong with Amnesia and trying to fix it, which makes me excited. Hopefully they return to the more challenging puzzles that were in Penumbra. The trailer really did remind me a lot of Penumbra which is a good thing.
That bit at the end… nnnuuuhhh :fffuuu:
^Agreed.
Amnesia did do some things better, but I found the Penumbra games to be an overall more interesting experience.
That’s piss poor. There are still 5 more files to open, but there’s nothing more rebooting or loading/reloading. After all this recent activity, at least give a screen that something is in the offing. I know it’s a long time until 2015, but link to something simple that keeps the public connected and interested. Like periodic surveillance camera screenshot captures of odd activities, or the like. Maybe a “Gathering Additional Data” or a “Recovering Corrupted Data” window, with no specific expiration date/period. Nothing extravagant or costly, but simple measures that would help keep interest in persons visiting the website for updates/status, especially since the release is a ways off.
C’mon Frictional Games, your not a “AAA” developer, but this is basic “Promotion 101.”
They said that there’s more to come. Not sure when they’ll start doing it again but they’re not going to stay silent till 2015.
Staying silent for too long can be highly detrimental, especially for a small studio like Frictional Games. Let’s hope that they don’t drop the ball for too long. I hope they adopt an ongoing active ancillary release of information, to maintain the hype during development. Again, it’s fairly easy to accomplish.
I will say, this looks like it has real potential to be scary. One thing I’ve always loved about Frictional Games is their ability to immerse you and even the trailer made me a little scared.
Hoping this will be a bit more like a mix of Amnesia and Penumbra.
Agreed. I loved Amnesia and the puzzles were pretty good, but most of the time they were basic and the game was more horror based. Whereas Penumbra had amazing horror, but it was very puzzle/exploration driven, I liked that.
Either way I think I’m going to enjoy whatever they produce since TCR isnt working on it this time. Not to sound like a hateful basher, but AAMFP was just…no.
There are no words to explain you sometimes.
I guess it comes down to a person’s vocabulary skills.
Hands-On Impressions: Amnesia Follow-Up SOMA
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/04/04/new-amnesia-game/
The setting sounds really cool, but I’m a little worried that they haven’t learned from Amnesia’s shortcomings. The need to remove as much scripting as possible, for the game to be truly scary and immerssive it needs to be as dynamic as possible.
SOMA is available for pre-order on Steam and GoG.
