New Eye Shader?

Actually, this picture does make the newer shaders better. The previous comparison just looked exaggerated. Nice effect!

I think the old ones look terrible.

Also, Barack Obama is 6’ 1", the citizen model is probably too small.

Maybe I’m a geek, but the first one with Obama in it reminded me of the movie Stargate, where the evil dude made his eyes glow.

Yeah the HLMV does exagerate the effect, but in game its fantastic. Fakefactory also tried to recreate this effect but he made the eyes look dead lol, I can do a better job than that. Also I will edit the illumination a bit to make them not so glassy. Also they dont have their own light source they just reflect light differently, kinda like an advanced version of that glint effect they use in the old eyes, except the new ones refract around the pupil and such. I will post some new comparrisons for you guys :stuck_out_tongue:

So you could release these for download so they can be installed in the mod.

Well I am going to wait for the teams response on this one. If they want it for the mod I will give it to them personally. (I am still in the process of tweaking them to get even better results although they are pretty much perfect) If they dont want it I will release for everyone.

Heres a little ingame comparison you tell me which ones look better .

The left one lacks color.

In the Alyx picture, the one on the right looks better. I don’t really see much of a different in the whites but the lack of color on the left ruins it.

Ok new comparison, I got rid of the murkyness and changed it a bit to use cubemaps instead of an env map (the one that was similar to the glint texture) Which one looks better? also I am yet to try lightwarps on it but I am about to give it a go.

Ok light warps are bad lol. I think I have got it as good as its going to get. But it is far better than the default hl2 eyes which havent changed since the first iteration of the game. Unlike the default flat eyes with a glint reflection the new eyes have cubemanp reflections Paralax mapping and Raytracing, all done by editing the VMT’s no coding required as its all already in the Orange Box Engine. So Black Mesa Team, just let me know if you want them because they are all yours. Even if you just want to test them Black Mesa is already one of the most polished, best looking upcoming mods out there why not match the eyes up to the new tech.

This isnt Half-Life: Source buddy, this is Black Mesa, Pushing the envelop on what can be done in a Source engine game. This Eye tech would be perfect.

Pretty sure it was a joke, but seriously good work on the eyes that last one on Alyx looks boss.
