My new PC is having a couple weird issues, and I’m wondering if anyone here has any insight.
Here’s the build:
Mobo: Asrock Z97 Extreme4
PSU: Corsair AX760
RAM: 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X @ 1866MHz
CPU: i5 4690K
GPU: EVGA nVidia GTX 970 Superclocked
Sound: ASUS Xonar Essence STX
There are two issues which may or may not be related. The first is that the PC turns itself on. This has happened twice now, and the build is less than a week old.
The first time it happened, I had just put the computer to sleep. The screen went off and the power light started blinking, but none of the fans turned off, which gave me pause. I stuck around for another ten or fifteen seconds, and the fans turned off, as expected. I then left the room. A couple minutes later, I came back in, and the PC had powered itself back on.
The second time it happened was last night. I was watching some videos in bed, and got up to turn the PC off. This time it was a full shutdown, not sleep. The PC powered off, and I got in bed, and a few minutes later, it powered on again. I shut it down and switched off the PSU just so I wouldn’t have to deal with it again while I was trying to sleep.
The other issue, which might be related, is that the motherboard never seems to completely power down, even when the PC is shut off. I have a USB microphone plugged into one USB 3.0 port, and it has a red power LED on it. On my old PC, when I shut off the power, the LED on the microphone would stay on for fifteen seconds or so, then power off. On the new build, it stays on for much longer. I can’t verify how long, because I don’t usually sit around and watch it. Last night, it wasn’t off until I switched off the PSU. I also supply internet to my PC through a homeplug. On my old build, after shutting down, the homeplug would go to sleep after five minutes or so: the network and data lights would switch off, and the power light would blink on and off slowly. On this PC, even when shut off, the homeplug does not go to sleep. The network and data lights continue flashing as though it’s still delivering data, and the orange light on the PC’s LAN port flashes along with it.
Things I’ve tried: Wake on LAN. This setting is disabled in the motherboard BIOS. The motherboard also has a “dehumidifier” function, where it will turn itself on periodically to run its fans and dehumidify the inside of the PC. This feature is also turned off in the BIOS.
I’m not really sure where else to look. Similar issues have been reported with this motherboard, but they all seem to stem either from the dehumidifier or from wake on LAN functions being switched on. I’d rather not flash the BIOS, because that’s scary as hell.
