New computer

Hey, i have looked around a bit, and found a hardware setup i might want to buy.

Heres the specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K (3.3 ghz)
Mainboard: MSI P67A-C45
RAM: Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1600 8GB CL7 (4 x 2 GB )
HDD : Western digital caviar black 500 gb
GPU: HIS Radeon HD 6950
Cabinet: In-Win Fanqua
Power supply: Corsair TX 650W
Disk drive: Sony Optiarc AD-7260S

This setup will cost about 8349 NOK, or 1473 USD, including windows 7 home premium.
Is this a good buy, or should i switch out some of the parts? Also, i’m not sure if the processor includes a fan to put on it, do i have to buy it seperately?
(bare with me, i’m really new to computer building)

help appreciated

That’s looks pretty damn expensive considering the parts you picked, like 200-300 over, but that’s my opnion, we’ll see what the PC gurus say.

I’d too say you could get more for less. Though I have no idea what PC-stuff costs in Norway.

1 dollar = 5.5 NOK btw

It’s too expensive man, forget about it. Here is my specs:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 quad (3.4 ghz)
Mainboard: Gigabyte MA770T-UD3
RAM: Patriot 1333 MHz 4 Gb(2 x 2 GB )
HDD : WD Caviar green 1000 gb
GPU: MSI Radeon HD r5770 HAWK
Cabinet: Asus TA-8G1
Power supply: Chieftec CTG-500-80P ATX 12V 500W
Disk drive: LG DVD±RW GH22 22x

I collect it and build my PC for like $670, and still think it a little much. Althoug it’s AMD instead of Intel, the computer is pretty fast. All CODs, Bioshock, Oblivion, etc, maxed out and 60+ fps. Crysis 2 Demo runs 35-60 fps on hardcore.

edit; oh and LG 21" for $200

I payed 2000$ a half a year ago for:

I7 2.8Ghz
8GB RAM DDR3
Club 3D Radeon HD 5770 Overclocked edition
Msi CD55 motherboard
Antec Sonata Elite case

Including: Win 7 and IIyama prolite 21" Screen.

These are my specs, if you want to compare.

Im verry happy with this system, ive had no problems so far.
Only downside is the price.

you bought a screen too, i already have a 32" TV i will use

I saw the specs i posted in a computer magazine, and they were recommended. But it would be great if you guys posted more specs and prices so i can compare a bit

Shepard - where did you buy that? was it prebuilt, or did you build it yourself?

Cant wait for steam to come out with that.

I bought all the parts in computer store, and collect it myself.

Are you buying the parts separately or are they part of a pre-built setup?
If they are separate then could you list the individual prices for the parts.

yep, buying seperately…

prices are:
cpu: 1644 NOK / 290 USD
memory: 758 NOK / 185 USD
hdd : 399 NOK / 70.41 USD
gpu: 2199 NOK / 388.02 USD
cabinet: 522 NOK / 92.11 USD
power supply: 614 NOK / 108.34 USD
disk drive: 169 NOK / 29.82 USD

windows 7: 995 NOK / 175.57 USD

The prices here in Europe are higher for any parts, I dunno why, really, but they are. The setup looks good enough, I hope you have looked up the prices of parts with similar performance and chosen the least expensive.

[EDIT] If you don’t have import taxes on countries outside EU, you can try ordering stuff from the US of A.

electical goods would be taxed iirc.

those costs are extortionate though mate - just took a quick look at the cpu:

i5 core - £160/ approx 1400NOK: https://www.ebuyer.com/product/251596

spec it on ebuyer or scan. might save yourself a helluva bunce.

doing some quick googleing (it took longer to write this post) on google shopping with the items you put up I came up with:

: /

  • i5 2500K: £130.73 / 1179 NOK
  • MSI P67A-C45: £83.00 / 749 NOK
  • Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1600: £62.40 / 562 NOK
  • Western digital caviar black 500 gb: £36.00 / 324 NOK
  • HIS Radeon HD 6950: £164.00 / 1470 NOK
  • Cabinet: £47.95 / 432 NOK
  • Corsair TX 650W: £52.00 / 469 NOK
  • Sony Optiarc AD-7260S: £11.00 / 99 NOK
  • total: £587.08 / 5295 NOK (converted from the GBP total)

This however will not be accurate as it does not include P&P, will be localised to Britain, and google shopping is some times far from accurate (but is a good place to start). Also I normal ignore websites that don’t list VAT.

I have found you can save some money with the gpu. you often get a similar model for cheeper, or a better one for nearly the same price, however, I only have experience with Nvidia and don’t know any thing about ATI.

edit:
uk_sniper both of those websites are good, but are often not the cheapest, ebuyer in particular.

silly billy, don’t buy windows

wow, that’s a lot of price drop! the site selling the parts i talked about(komplett.no) is generally known here to be the cheapest site with best service :stuck_out_tongue:

i will buy windows, since i cant be bothered with the cracking of it.

pixmania.com is not cheap (at least in LV) but it can’t hurt to check it out. And they do ship to Norway.

i checked it out. was a bit too expensive :stuck_out_tongue:

What, you meant the double-click, wait 5 sec, reboot, cracking that I did on the computer I am using RIGHT NOW?

yeah, pretty hard bro, I’d pay 170 USD to avoid doing that shit again.

i usually crack/pirate stuff anyways, so i wanted the OS to be clean, at least.
