New Computer

I have recently been considering purchasing a new computer. My current one is not good enough to play any non-source games at decent framerates.

My budget is about £500-£600.

I have been considering these specs.

Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 (2 x 2.9 Ghz) 1066FSB - 3 MB
Ati Radeon HD 4850 512mb
4GB PC-6400 800 MHZ (2 x 2 GB ) (DDR2)

How well will this run recent, demanding games?

Can anyone reccomend any sites/parts for a better computer in my budget?

So you already have a LGA775 mobo, that supports that particular CPU?
I’m pretty sure those parts do not even come close to getting the most out of your budget.
But yes, they would play modern games okay.

I do not have the time or permission to build one myself, so I am using a website with customise options. In the end, including everything, the motherboard, monitor, etc. comes to about £530.

The site does not allow incompatabilities between the parts, so the motherboard probably supports the CPU.

Use ibuypower.com.

That website looks a treat, I will have a look around soon, thanks.

EDIT: I just relised that it is an American exclusive site, with expensive shipping to the UK.

Explain.

Ok.
Let me make this clear for you.

Use cyberpowerpc.com.
Do it.
Best site. Its the one to do. Im not kidding. Cheap, good. Do it. Im serious. CyberPowerPC.com.

You’d be better off with 2 4850s in crossfire, and you can get a cheaper C2D and overclock if you’re comfortable with that sort of thing.

My dad does not trust me with this sort of thing, and I am busy with exams.

Also, rather than going on my advice from you guys, the PC has already been ordered. I think it has the HD 4850 and the duel core, but the rest is in the dark…

Thanks for the help anyway guys.

Save up enough money to build one, they are way better than name brands.

Exactly what this guy said. A self-built PC can be more powerful than an Alienware Gaming PC if you put more powerful stuff in your case than Alienware does.

With a considerably smaller price.

Get a core E8400 if you can, they can overclock pretty well so you can get a little closer to core i7 performance.

My first PC was

ASUS P5KPL-CM Motherboard
ATI Radeon 2400 HD
Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2200 @ 2.20GHz
4GB - RAM
A Power Box (Forgot what kind.)
CD/DVD Drive
280GB - Hard Disk

That all was pretty cheap. All from https://newegg.com

Cheap and works great. Does its job fine.

EDIT: DO NOT DENY MY JUDGMENT. MY DAD KNOWS ALL ABOUT PCS.

I also bought the p5kplcm from asus, but my original CPU was an E2160 overclocked to 2.78 Ghz

I have no idea what the bloody graphics card is on my new PC (it’s in the mail)

It is either a 9600gt(don’t let it be so!) or a HD 4850(OmNomNom)

How dissapointed should I be if it is the 9600gt?

You should be pretty well disappointed.

Oh Shi-

Don’t fail me now luck.

Building computers is much simpler than people think. All it requires is a fairly basic understanding of electronics and a good portion of common sense and logical thinking.

Really the most challenging aspect of it is knowing what components are compatible with eachother and all that takes is a little research.

It’s imperative you wash all the components with a lot of soap and water before installing them though.

Hurr durr I’m not funny.
