Need Serious Help!

Ok guys, this is what is happening. I’ve had my computer since 2005, actually it’s a HP Pavilion m7100e. I’ve haven’t really played any games on it for a long time. Then one day I go to play Maple Story and it crashes like 10 minutes in. Then I downloaded Combat Arms and that did the same thing. Soon enough, I found out that any games I play on my computer crashes 5 to 10 minutes in. When the games crash, the screen just freezes and I can’t do anything. I cant even do CTRL + ALT + DELETE. So I end up having to restart my computer.

After hours of researching and testing, I found out my gpu chip starts to overheat when I play games and after it gets to it’s highest temperature, the game crashes and the computer restarts. I found this out with SpeedFan, which is a program that shows your gpu current temperature.

To fix all this I got a program called RivaTuner. Which can adjust your fans speed. I used this guy’s tutorial to try adjusting my fans speed accordingly-> https://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9027555
Now the problem is when I click customize and then click on the chip icon my screen pops up with this.

When it’s supposed to be this.

Can someone please help me get to that screen above :frowning: Thanx!
And yes that is Daxter in the background

dust out your pc before you do anything else

Thanx, I already dusted it out not to long ago

remove GPU heatsink assembly, clean it and apply arctic silver

Well there’s your problem.

Also, Maple Story ftw!

Maplestory is quite fun.

your problem is most likely a fried GPU, if you still think its the fan speed download ntune it enables fan speed control in nvidia control panel

That’s a lie.

The screen you’re showing is for the bottom customize button. The screen you have shows up on very simple video cards, usually computers with on-board controllers versus physical cards.

The screen you want is on the first customize button, follow by the chip button. It should display low level fan control.

A quick question if that didn’t help, do you have a physical video card? (ATI, nVidia?) It doesn’t look like it, and if that’s the case I would suggest going out and purchasing a cheap card. ($50~$120)

Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

sorry i automatically assumed that OP had an nvidia because of rivatuner

i think at this point the best thing to do is apply an extra fan around the gpu/northbrige area

Extra airflow is always good. Chances are with this issue, there wasn’t even a fan on the chip to begin with. (It IS hot right now, depending on where you are, so when it cools off your problems may subside.)

Before I begin I would really like to thank sersoft and Zageron. Sersoft solved my problem and zageron provided an in depth explanation. I never knew about Ntune until sersoft told me and when I downloaded I performed a system test that configured my computer clocks and fan speeds and such. Now my gpu is down almost 20 degrees! which is good becuase my games arn’ t crashing! I can always trust the black mesa community, thanks guys! BTW im typing all this on my phone.

ohh ya, if anybody whants to play minecraft i’llbe hosting a server on tuesday when i get back from vacation

you’re welcome!

I am going to assume that the GPU is really old. :stuck_out_tongue:
You mind saying what GPU you have?

Run > dxdiag

Click Display, screenshot the screen and upload.

Thanks, and you’re welcome.

Oh, and as for trusting the Black Mesa community… from what I’m seen in my year of lurking, this is generally a very bad idea. Don’t trust too much that is said here.
There is too much fail and troll spawn.

Delete System32, it makes everything run faster.

What the hell has become of these forums? Why has nobody flamed the OP for not putting this into “Help and Support”?

We’ve lost the lighter.

Because it is a thread about gaming technology. :hmph:

But it’s also asking for help. :hmph: :hmph:

damn I love it when my first hunch is right on

only happens with computers though

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
