I need an unbiased opinion for each of these games, might sound weird that I mention no bias and I want you to list both pros and cons of them, by unbiased I mean don’t try to make it better/worse than it really is.
Funny that these have a quite good meta scores but I don’t get a good vibe from reading negative user reviews, and I trust gamers more than journalists, so I really dunno now:
-Torchlight 2 (didn’t like the first one much, managed to get to some weird spider boss and then i hit uninstall… the whole game is in dungeons, overpowered abilities and not a very user-friendly interface… prefer Diablo more)
-Dishonored (not a big fan of stealth and looks like a worse Bioshock, also hate first person shooters with too much of RPG elements)
-Far Cry 3 (same as above, also heard the AI sucks)
-Hitman Absolution (can it be played actiony as well?)
-Assassin’s Creed 3 (yet to play a AC game)
-Dark Souls
-Resident Evil 6
-Bulletstorm
-Deux Ex Human Revolution
-Batman Arkham City
-The Witcher 2
-DmC: Devil May Cry
Are any of these worth money and more importantly nerves that I lack nowadays? Thanks.
Dishonored doesn’t really have RPG elements. You can use runes you collect to get and upgrade powers but that’s pretty much it. It’s a really fun game, but if you don’t like stealth games you probably won’t like it too much.
Witcher 2 is pretty nice, though the combat is pretty mediocre. It looks really good and I like the parts where you’re talking to other characters a lot. I’ve just started playing it again and the combat isn’t as bad as I remember but it’s still not something I would call good.
Didn’t bother trying it. Looked WAAAYYY too cartoony for me. I’ve got PoE for my ARPG fix. It’s free, and awesome.
I liked Dishonored far more than Bioshock. But then, I like stealth games. Gameplay and skills are polished. Art style is a bit odd, but I didn’t notice it too much. Runs well, and story is engaging.
Haven’t yet played.
I know other people seem to like it, but I just couldn’t get into the game.
Very good. More of the awesome Batman AA gameplay. City didn’t seem as big or open as I’d like and ending is a bit of a let down, but definitely a good game.
Good game. Not sure if I just suck, but it seems really damned difficult to me.
all those games are way good, of course any of them are not perfect in all sense (like nothing in this world) but worth it, if you have money just do it!
Resident Evil 6 is a good game as long as you ignore it’s part of the RE saga.
Dark Souls is a brilliant game that will tear your soul apart and have you beg for more.
Bulletstorm is pretty fun and short enough that it doesn’t overstay its welcome.
Deus Ex HR is fantastic, although flawed in a few areas. It’s not as deep as the original but it will certainly have you engaged for some time.
Arkham City is great but not as well-paced as Arkham Asylum. It will keep your entertained for many hours.
Torchlight 2 fixes many of the original game’s problems and is even more addicting.
Hitman Absolution is harder than you think and more linear too, but it’s good old Hitman fun.
Dishonored is great but, like Human Revolution, could use more polishing in some areas. It certainly is the start of a great saga.
The Witcher 2 is probably one of the best RPGs in recent years but it could use a more open-ish world, which seems to be something that the sequel might bring.
Far Cry 3 is just all around fun with a few flaws.
Assassin’s Creed 3 I haven’t played enough to form a solid opinion yet.
-Have Dishonored. Played a bit of it but I haven’t really gotten into it. Love the art style, though.
-Not interested in Far Cry 3. Far Cry 2 (the game’s immediate predecessor) was an absolute clusterfuck disaster in every conceivable manner. Every guard on the goddamn map will open up on you in seconds, completely ruining any actual ability to balance working with the factions. All guards also have primitive AI. Suppressed weapons seem to have no actual suppression effect- everyone knows instantly where you are the instant you fire a weapon or even SWING THE GODDAMN KNIFE. If Far Cry 3 continues to have flaws like that then I’m completely justified in ignoring all the positive reviews, because FC2 was similarly overrated.
-Hitman Absolution- haven’t played. Still trying to work on Contracts and Blood Money.
-Assassin’s Creed 3 is a mixed bag. Honestly, I think it’s an awful spot for a first timer to jump in, even though it’s supposed to be more accessible. The first game, released in 2007, actually had an interesting story. The game mechanics aren’t as polished as this new game, but the overall experience is more gripping. AC3 has a ton of side content, and the naval sequences are easily the best part of the game, but fuck is Connor a boring protagonist. The story just isn’t pulling me in at all.
-Have not played Dark Souls.
-I got to try a little Resident Evil 6 in co op for a few seconds. Splitscreen seems to have been programmed by the monkeys with typewriters that still haven’t cranked out Shakespeare- the screens are very weirdly split with a ton of dark space, presumably to preserve aspect ratio but it’s incredibly disorientating on standard def TVs. Of course, I found Resident Evil 4 to be incredibly average, and RE5 aped the same game mechanics while ruining the inventory system, so why bother?
-Bulletstorm was a lot of fun. It’s very arcade and the story is too camp to take even remotely seriously but that’s part of its charm. Worth a rental.
-Deus Ex: Human Revolution was my game of 2011, but considering you don’t like stealth games it might not be your favorite. The social interactions and story are quite good, and the atmosphere is peerless. Boss fights are a real negative because you have to use lethal weapons on them. Of course, if you shoot your way through the game I guess that isn’t a problem, but if you wanted a combat build I suggest you upgrade your armor ASAP because shootouts can kill Jensen very quickly.
-Arkham City was a bit of a bore. Lots of fanservice and no real narriative pull. I put it down after the Al Ghul sequence and never looked back.
-Haven’t played Witcher 2.
-Ninja Theory’s DMC only just came out, haven’t gotten it. I still have the first four games sitting on my shelf to beat. Attempting to play Devil May Cry 3 first (chronological order) resulted in me almost throwing my controller across the room many times because of how difficult the game was. Cerberus (the first boss) killed me well over thirty times before I finally managed to kill him. I may be a sucker for hard games once in a while for some challenge, but GODDAMN IT DMC3 IS FUCKING BALLBUSTINGLY DIFFICULT.
As for what you should buy: Perhaps you should get “XCOM: Enemy Unknown?” Just be sure to play on normal to minimize the possibility of getting the %^$#^%$^%^&%$&$%^#@%^$%#$%^&^ teleport bug.
Thanks for replies, so perhaps Dishonored and Batman for now, and gotta check Path of Exile, thanks limit.
The older I get, the harder it is to satisfy my gamer needs… also I got weak nerves as of late, if something is too depressing, I just hit alt+f4 and possibly an uninstall if it’s really bad. My expectations are also damn high, I truly enjoyed Max Payne 3, it’s only flaw was the lack of explosives like grenades etc; Portal 2 almost perfect, even though I had to look up some solutions on youtube Black Mesa, enjoyed it of course… the last game that I played is Crysis 2 and wasn’t fun long cause the gameplay seemed too “consolish” for my tastes.
@Maxey,
-RE6,Hard to ignore
-DS,Sounds encouraging, heard it’s hard and PC port sucks tho
-BS,Cool, so I might get that one as well
-DEHR,… I will try “a test version” first, before a purchase (if you know what I mean)
-BAC, cool then
-TL2, what about overpowered spells, lack of environmental variety and confusing interface… still present?
-HA, can it be played full action?
-DH, ic
-WCH2, if I’m not a big fan of RPG and the combat is mediocre, anything else other than nudity to engage me?
-FC3, what about bad AI and repetitive stealth combat?
-AC3, hmm
Some more about RE6, I truly hate the new action approach as I was, and still am a big fan of the classics that were survival horror… RE4 was overall a well made game in terms of content and polish, but the story is a joke and some parts are more boring that the rest. I liked RE5 thinking of it as an action game tho.
That’s what I love about DMC3, it’s damn worth it once you pass through and has lots of replay value. If it’s too hard, get the HD one, they made it easier a bit.
I guess you can play Hitman Absolution as an action game, it’ll just be hard as hell, as well as not the right way to play it.
Same for Dishonored, although not to the same extent.
TL2 seemed way more playable and straightforward than TL1, so take that as you may.
Dark Souls PC is indeed a very poor port, which can be mostly fixed with a fan-patch. Look for DSfix.
The combat in Witcher 2 is not mediocre, it’s just a bit unorthodox and combo based. The thing about the Witcher games is that they’re a bit hard to get into if you’re only used to RPGs like Elder Scrolls or Diablo.
I guess the AI in FC3 is a bit better than the prequel’s although it’s still pretty bad but stealth is no longer a necessity. You can play full Rambo if you so desire. By the way, Far Cry 3 is way, way, way better than FC2. It’s not overrated at all. It’s fucking great.
In Far Cry 3’s defense, Yahtzee liked it quite a bit, and I’m pretty sure he hated Far Cry 2 as well. There’s lots more stuff you can do in the game world than FC2, but I haven’t played it yet so it’s really up to what you think you want.
However, my immense cynicism about the game’s immediate prequel leaves me non-plussed.
Okay, more or less decided for now, although more recommendations are welcome. @k3nny, is the DMC3 original version or special edition? (unless it’s already the hd port) I can give you a few tips if you are interested through pm. @Maxey, damn you, I will remember your words Okay, so the best option is to purchase them all indeed, gonna make me super poor tho ._.
I see, any ideas about GREAT “Diablo clones” ??? I mean comparable to the quality of the series. Before anyone mentions Titan Quest, then tried it, but the interface, combat (only played a bit) and quest system turned me off.
