no give me free money
Just bought Natural Selection 2 through the Humble Store
That’s the end of my gaming budget this year, I think
I should start playing this again. Haven’t touched it for a while, don’t think I’ve experienced any of these updates. I hope enough people donate, but I probably won’t, I’ve pretty much hit my limit for crowdfunding at this point, though these guys have released their thing and are trying to get the money back, not funding an unreleased product, so the money should be coming in faster than a normal Kickstarter project.
I loved the ost and what little I was able to play but I suffered unusually poor performance and am currently holding out on a reinstall until the female marines become playable
Female marines? No, thanks… female aliens or no cash from my wallet.
Only if they actually deliver the OSX client they promised in 2009.
Female marines are playable.
Well in that case I just need to wait for my new processor to get here
I gotta play this again.
How’s performance now?
I played it for a little bit yesterday and with everything maxed I’m getting a little bit over 60 fps with drops occasionally with an i5 4670k and a 670. Turning ambient occlusion down a notch raises my max fps to about 80 but it still drops below 60 at points. What annoys me is that I have vsync on but still get screen tearing, like it’s adaptive vsync.
Maybe try forcing V-sync through the Nvidia Control Panel - I read several posts on the NS2 forum the other night from people having problems with the in-game V-sync not applying properly.
Not sure if I should run the game in DX9 or DX11 - the only differences I could spot on the menu were a difference in shadow filtering (DX11 and OpenGL have “noisy” edges, DX9 has blurred edges), tiny variations in ambient occlusion and slightly lower framerate (by 1 - 2fps. OpenGL mode meanwhile is ~13fps slower than DX9 on the menu).
I didn’t even realize there was a DX11 mode. All I saw was DX9 and OGL for some reason.
I get a consistent 60-80 fps while running DX11 mode on a GTX 660 and an i5-3570k
I noticed DX11 seems a bit smoother. The framerate seems about the same as DX11 but there seems to be less frame drops overall. Didn’t compare them side by side though so can’t be for sure. Worst case they’re the same for me. Didn’t try OpenGL but read some forum posts saying the performance with it was pretty bad.
Also I’m awful at this game. The aliens move too much and I can’t hit them.
Try playing commander then. It’s pretty fun.
