National treasures

Inspired by my own post in the YLYL thread, I decided it would be a nice to have a thread where you post national treasures.

I’m not talking about silly things like a fancy dance, tasty food or a refreshing beverage, I’m talking about architectural- and/or natural beauty.

So, go ahead and post what you think is beautiful in your country (do mention the country if it isn’t set in your location :<)

Belgium

Central Station, Antwerp

Graslei, Ghent

Brugse Reien, Bruges

Netherlands

Amsterdams Rijksmuseum (the place I used to work at)

Given, I don’t like religion all too much, but this is a great building regardless:
De Sint Jans Kerk in Gouda

(Translation: The Saint Jan Church in Gouda)

Ingang Eerste en Tweede kamer (meest waardeloze kamers ooit) in Den Haag

(Translation: Entrance First and Second room (most worthless rooms ever) in Den Hague)

Redwood National Park, California

Grand Canyon

Snoqualmie Falls, Washington (but I may be biased)

Yellowstone

Mt. Rainier (I get to see this every day!)

We don’t have that stuff over here. Just some coastlines and land. Nothing special.

Redwood and Yellowstone are probably the only places I’d consider worth visiting in the states. It’s so damn beautiful over there.

Only bits of decent natural beauty we have, are the Ardennnes:

Nice edit thar. I agree though. Oh, and the canyon.

To think they were going to tear the central station down :fffuuu:

also, Antwerp cathedral:

the McDonald’s there is a bit of an eyesore :x

I bet they strategically made sure it was there. Just to guarantee every shot of the cathedral would get them a shot as well.

This pretty much sums up my fav places and things to do in Colorado. Included are some rather nice shots of the mountains.

You may have mountains and nature, but you sure as hell can’t make houses as good as Belgium does.

PS: Are those lamas? They aren’t national treasures. They come from South America.

PPS: Didn’t know Americans played icehockey.

llamas? where?

First left. They look like llamas. Or is it my blindness stopping me from noticing it’s a deer?

See?

My rage about my inability to coonect to steam blinded me.

Brazil, Lençóis Maranhenses National Park

Brazil and Argentina (it’s right in the border between the two countries), Iguazu/Iguaçu/Iguassu Falls

There’s plenty more around here, but I’ve personally visited these two places and both are fucking breath-taking.

Too bad the falls are not THAT impressive anymore… they built a dam on the upper part of the river which diminished the volume of water on the falls :frowning: .

I’d protest against that dam.

Well the difference is only noticeable during the dry season… but still it’s disappointing to see the falls sort of “weak” looking when they used to look like that all year long :frowning: .

EDIT: For anyone interested, the dam (Itaípu) is actually the largest hydroelectric power plant ever built. It’s pretty cool actually, although it isn’t as much “beautiful” as it is “holy shit that’s massive”:

Why was that dam build? It reminds me of that Aswan dam.

It was posted before that edit :hmph:

Here in my town.
