Movie in M4v

So I got a movie on my comp in the M4V format, with a M4A file with the same name. I believe the former is the video file, and the other one the audio file. Unfortunately, I can’t use either files with VLC or Quicktime.

Do I need to merge them together? Or am I missing a codec? If so how do I know which one I need?

Apparently you either need to open it with an authorized iTunes account, if it contains DRM protection, or rename it to .mp4 and run it normally.

I don’t have an iTunes account, and changing it to MP4 didn’t work =/. By the way I also got a libgpac.dll file with it.

looks like someone just ripped it off their iPod without knowing about the DRM.

Here’s the folder if it can help:

Do you have iTunes? You might try just installing it, adding the movie to your library and playing it. Or you can try the other thing the article mentioned (removing DRM and remuxing to mkv).

You don’t need to have an iTunes Store account to be able to use it; and since this is a rip it might have the DRM removed already.

And how do you remove a DRM from a video?

“However, unprotected M4V files may be recognized and played by other video players by changing the file extension from ‘.m4v’ to ‘.mp4’. M4V files contain DRM and the purchasing users info. It is recommended to use Requiem to remove the DRM and remux this into mkv.”

Apparently, Requiem.

I tried to remove the DRM with Requiem. Not working. I tried to convert it to MKV, not working either. So screw it, I’ll just get another one.

Easiest fix is isohunt or the like. Not more illegal than trying to bypass drm protection.

Fuck me. I just discovered why it wouldn’t work: The torrent hadn’t finish downloading for unknown reasons.

That’s why I always CRC check every big file I download.
