Moddifying My Dream Rig

Do what I did, and put it on top of some box or something. I had a massive chunk of styrofoam from my old speakers that was nearly a foot high, so I just keep it on that.

I’m too articulate to just do something like that.

So! I mah have solved my issue with the case. Lian Li. Anyone think I can get away with this using everything else?

Note: The mobo would change from the Rampage III Extreme to the Rampage III Gene, I would downgrade to a modular Thermaltake 850w modular PSU. Everything else remains the same.

Think airflow would be sufficient? Or should I upgrade the free 120mm in the front? [The other would house the H50]

Just realized this is a double post…

But its your thread so its alright, dont think you should have the Gene board.

EDiT : Deffinetly not, and that Lian Li case, what the hell are you thinking?

Doubt the h50 would fit.touches the side panel of my 300

Yeah, gonna roll with the Lian Li-PC A71F

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119137 <-- good case. for the money only think i don’t like is the blue led’s on the front fan.

The full tower Vic? Nice choice i considered that once, its very Smart aswell.

Hah, the H50 fits in the Lian Li LAN Box, Saw a video of the build. My only concern is GPU airflow.

  • it looks shit.

id be talking to you on steam but, im on ubuntu and havent bothered to sort it yet.

No worries. I’m over at the rents right now showing them the rig. No joke, I’m being forced to get 12GB instead of 6GB of memory. And to buy a bigger SSD… I currently have selected a 128GB Crucial SSD at 355mb read 144write. Gonna see what else is out there that’s bigger.

why don’t you buy a 1TB SSD?
it’s only ~3000$

Ended up getting the 240GB OCZ vertex 2. Ordered it and it’s being processed.

I just got a 1TB WD Green somethingorother. Glad to have my C drive freed up for GIGANTIC uncompressed video files. Gonna be a looooooooong time before I need another hard drive!

Externals FTW. But yeah, tons of space. :] And the 1TB SSDs are pathetic. I’ll wait 5 years to get another.

Im considering getting a 60gb and you got this.

Bastard.

EDIT: Can you now post your complete rig specs :

I don’t need all that size. I have a 500 external for videos/music/school. SSD is for gaming and applications. Hell, my 110GB HDD isn’t even full of games/apps.

How long until Windows 7 gets in man?

What the hell? I can’t even find 60GB drives on Newegg, the smallest they have is 72 (which I guess would end up being 60 after formatting), and those are apparently high-performance ones and cost a lot. Seriously, what the hell is limiting you to searching for a 60GB drive? Unless you’re buying a garbage old used one for $5 or something, then you may as well go higher for the price increase. If you really can’t afford anything other than some ancient used thing, then maybe you should reconsider your financial priorities.

Fnoigy, im in england, we do have some different versions.

@Victus - Hopefully tommorow if not anywhere till the 12th (maximum)

If I’m lost in translation, I apologize but… Fnoigy, he’s talking about a Solid State Drive, not Hard Disk Drive. SSDs are good for OS/Application boot times. 5$ wouldn’t even get you a 4GB flashdrive.

Versions of what? I’m still not sure what is forcing you to look for such a tiny drive which is actually so old it’s hard to find. How much are you paying?

EDIT: Well, that’s different. Though I’d suggest you save your money and be more patient while booting. Also, FYI the new drive I bought is a Caviar Green, which are the slower WD drives. Then again, I don’t intend to be booting from it or playing Crysis off it, but rather use it as a mass storage device for movies and shows, which it’s plenty fast enough for, leaving my old 320G drive as the boot/work drive. Though it seems the old one still isn’t much faster than the new one, if at all.
