Mod release speculation thread

i’d put money on that.
Chances are, nobody will actually be playing the game until the late afternoon of January 1st…and that’s only those with the fastest connections. i probably won’t even finish the download at least until the 4th or 5th. By then i’ll have caved in and watched a rushed Let’s Play on YouTube and lost all interest once i see the terrible map designs, hear the horrible voice acting, realized the game won’t run on my computer and set the download priority to “lowest”, right under my girlfriend’s torrent of Sailor Moon.

…or i just might sit at my desk, staring at the progress bar until it’s burned into the screen.

could it be that sailor moon is a figmint( idk how to spell it) of his imagination and his girlfriend is black mesa?

Oh noes! i’ve been undone!

Last I heard the build is around 9 gigabytes, which is the typical size of any modern big-budget game on steam. I’m sure it will be playable by end users before 2010.

Have you looked at the mediaz at all, or listened to any of the voice actors?
Have you looked at the dev’s past work? This mod is in good hands.

YOU might be playing before 2010. i won’t be…and i’m actually okay with that. My internet connection sucks royally, so i’ll probably be hogging my whole house’s bandwidth 24/7 until the download is complete. if the game came out at the last minute, it’ll probably take me as long as a week into January before i can play. i’ve waited this long for the game so another week or so wouldn’t effect me.

Are you familiar with sarcasm? The internet is full of it!

I hope my crap computer will download it properly unlike most of my other mods or i will be angry after waiting many years for this mod.

Man, this on campus internet is really nice, I’ll probs be playing BM 3 hours after release.

You see your second item there?
That’s me, all across the board. if i’m lucky, something will peak a little over 6k. You’d swear i was on dial-up but my connection runs a good 1.5mbps download and 500kbps upload. it works okay for surfing but gaming on my PS3 can get a little choppy and i can’t stream anything on YouTube without waiting for at least half of any video to load before playing.

i live out in the middle of nowhere. No cable, no DSL and F*CK satellite!! Hughesnet is the biggest isp ripoff. Thank GOD that contract’s over! With any luck i’ll be watching the game’s opening about a week (maybe two) after release.

i can wait.

@ Level: I have a friend who has campus wireless internet and he says that he is not allowed to use Steam. Apparently the campus internet only lets him do research on the Net. So kudos to you if your university lets you use Steam on the campus wireless network.

@ Tei: Dial-up is okay, but DSL is much better. I used dial-up when I started using Steam and playing Half-Life 1. Broadband, however, is recommended for Steam. If only satellite internet was cheaper…

@ Headcrabkiller96: If you have a crappy computer, it’s probably going to be Black Mesa Slideshow for ya, bro. Enjoy the BM slideshow.

My school blocks all torrent traffic. You cant download .torrent files (though there are still ways to get em, i.e. dl as .txt) and then if you try to run say utorrent or something it just wont connect to anything. Not sure exactly how they block it but its annoying as hell. I have to wait until the weekends I go home to get stuff and then bring it back via flashdrive.

However if this doesnt get released until Dec 31st like most everyone expects, thats perfectly fine as Ill be home on winter break where my connection is awesome and Ill have plenty of time to play when its done downloadin. =P

Also, people often thought this might come out Nov. 17 but thats not gonna happen because thats when l4d2 comes out and neither they nor valve will want competition between the two games.

I’m pretty sure he doesn’t use dial-up by choice. It’s not okay.

Why on earth do people think this mod is going to compete with anything? Its a non-industry title, and its free! People will use all the money they saved on this mod to buy other games. In fact I bet that Source game sales will pickup when this mod comes out so that people can meet the download requirements for it. If anything people who don’t have a source game might get L4D2 if BM is released near 17th or 19th since it is a much anticipated source game and a source game is required to play it. If I was Valve I would even have a huge HL/source game sale on the day of BM release. They did it for the greatest video game hero tournament on gamespot, and how much more monumental is the launch of the remake of the greatest game ever?
Its really no competition at all.

Doesn’t L4D2 have a modified version of the source engine? Would it work properly?

Any game that comes with the source shared content will work. I don’t see why L4D2 wouldn’t work.

Wrong, it does not use the same kind of engine, it’s a different version.

It will still include the Source SDK, and therefore will enable you to play Source mods.

I’m pretty sure L4D has it’s own kind of SDK. I might be wrong, but then so could you.

NO, he’s right, you’re wrong.

Yes it does run on a modified version of source, but owning it entitles you to download the source SDK base and all the other source SDK’s including the SDK base - Orange Box that is required for the mod
Edit: Ninja’d :ninja:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
