Minecraft Developer "Notch" Gives nod to Black Mesa.

Why is this significant? Markus is a Valve fan, and as such has embraced the very core of Valve’s success. Embracing the modding community with open arms. This very basic fundamental concept seems to be lost on so many developers.

Thank you John Carmack. For inventing the wheel.
Thank you Valve. For giving the wheel immersion and physics.
Thank you Black Mesa Team. For giving us a revisit of these milestones, with graphic splendor.

um … ok

a fat programmer that makes lousy java games “nods” to black mesa
How is this more significant than any other human being that played and enjoyed black mesa

Maybe because he has 891,000 more followers than the average person and that exposure is more important than you being jealous of his success?

Notch, embracing the mod community? clearly you don’t follow mine craft development, Notch did next to zero mod support for minecraft and all the stuff getting done now like API and all the extra block IDs was done by Jeb

totally.

Because that lousy Java game is worth more than our lives.

I think it’s worth more than his life too, even though he has the money.
That guy donated 10.000 bucks or more to the carmageddon reincarnation kickstarter.
Fuck his cube game for retards but as far as I’m concerned, he’s a nice guy!

as if anything notch says or does is significant. he’s just a lazy fat ass developer who tricked people into hyping his game by promising things he never kept or achieved.

i don’t understand why he is even talking about this when his own game doesn’t even support mods officially other than textures.

jesus christ guys

minecraft is fun as shit. calm down.

Minecraft is a kiddie game for little kids!!! Black Mesa is for hardcore PC gamers!!!

Black Mesa is definitely for hardcore gamers

that being said, the reason I don’t care about Notch is because, while he has made a popular game, he really has done nothing new and realistically doesn’t deserve the respect and fame he has gotten. The fact that every other game he has worked on has been an abysmal failure is evidence of this

Actually the one thing that I liked about minecraft were the mods other people made for it. Alone the game got old quick unless you enjoy following mindless rituals like mining and farming, but the mods like “More Creeps and Weirdos” were really fun and creative. based on this of what a perfect game contains, minecraft does relatively well on each of the 6 aspects, but Black Mesa does better.

so you dont enjoy minecraft, you enjoy the mods that other people made. something that has nothing to do with minecraft.

Notch wouldn’t even made minecraft if he never played infiniminer, also everything he added to the game was done already by other games. he never added anything new, never officially allowed mods. so what makes minecraft special.

well, that’s the most kiddielike comment i’ve seen in a loong time.

minecraft is a phenomenon. it’s about creativity: completely different from any FPS, and thus not comparable with BM.

i give a shit about what notch says about a game, because he is a good game designer, and because he tries hard to be a nice guy despite the wagons’a’money he has.

I’ve never played Minecraft, but I hear about it all the time from my friends. Maybe one day I’ll try it out, we’ll see.

But I don’t see why someone has to comment on the physical form of that developer or on his creations anyway? This is not the point here, caballeros.

Look at this like that: he has a lot of followers and friends. After seeing this message many of them will go and try Black Mesa out. Some of them will love it and will recommend it to their friends. And so on.

It surely won’t harm the Black Mesa, on the contrary, it will do the opposite. See?

Allow me to clarify my point of this thread. It was not to discuss the merits or opinions of Notch.
I was attempting to tell the Devs that he was the first Half-Life fan with some public clout to recommend Black Mesa.

Also let me clarify the modder tie in. Simplified.

John Carmack creates Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake. Basicly he invents 3d gaming as you know it today.

Valve team mods quake engine. creates HL1 and TFC. <—Valve team modders

Valve continues modding until a whole new engine called source is born. <—Valve is still modding

BMS team mods source, and here we are today. <—BMS Team modders

Notch mods infiniminer, Mincraft is born. <—Notch ia a modder

I believe modding support means allowing others to modify your work. And then offer it publicly. I am a HL fanboy to the core. But I don’t need to hate other games to love Half-Life.

so you support devs who promise something to get people to buy his game and then change what he said later in a tos.

TFC? Valve’s innovation? O’rly?

I assume you mean Notch and Minecraft…? What did he switch and bait here?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
