Mircosoft Seeks Patent On Shaming Fat Gamers
Got this from another Forum, but it gave me a few giggles and so I thought I’d share it with you all here. Basically the idea is your Avatar will reflect what your medical records say about you, so if you’re overweight, it will affect the apperance of your avatar and even ban you from entering certain competitions on Xbox Live. Looks like we won’t even be able to escape our real lives anymore
Holy shit, this adds a whole new level of asshole-ness to Microsoft, why would they even do such a thing?
those Bastards. think of the fatties
it would be like having the comments in Wii fit say “you are a fat-ass and desperately need to lose weight, find another way to do this 'cause you’ve since disabled your balance board by exceeding the maximum recommended load”
I understand that this is to make sure video games don’t ruin children’s lives… but wow, that’s absurd.
That is incredible. I wonder who thought of something like that?
's no way it’d ever go into effect, of course…the backlash would be huge. But man, that’d be hilarious if it did.
I love it. Not because it doesn’t affect me but because it’s true [the fat ass part]. They seek to get rid of fat people, who doesn’t? It’s not absurd they want to do this, it’s absurd people allow them selves to achieve that weight, then again, it’s not quite an achievement, more of a disgrace.
I do like the idea of gameplay based around your life.
You sound like an asshole.
You sound like a fat person.
I’m not, but such resentment and hatred for a group of people just because of their weight… is simply sickening.
I know quite a few overweight people and they’re very nice, often also confident. While slim people are often afraid of losing their “figure”. Which in my opinion is quite a weakness.
I know a few fat people IRL and most of them insist that there are almost no real disadvantages to being fat. Microsoft wants to teach them a lesson, and I approve.
I’m skinny as hell but I eat alot of food and I never find myself thinking about this “figure” you speak of.
This is our future
Wall-E said so, Microsoft instead of punishing the larger gentlemen should be creating these chairs
I don’t see how I’m an asshole when I want people to be healthy…explain that one.
Go play second life then. A lot of people play online games to be someone their not and to experience another lifestyle outside of what they have be it good or bad. It’s an escape and dragging those things with you into the virtual world opens up a new road to internet bullying and can cause serious problems. I say just get rid of the fatties and request they make a better OS.
In games you could go shoot stuff up, you could jump off a cliff and walk away right after touching the ground. I don’t think anybody’s crazy enough to do that in real life, except maybe the blind believers.
Ofcourse, if Microsoft decides to make something that transplants injuries from games into real life, we’ll be seeing some interesting debates a la copenhagen.
I don’t think that’s ever gonna happen, unless it’s a side effect of virtual reality.
Now, finally, we know why the Red Rings Of Death happen.
Fatal Error!
Possible cause: You’re fat.
Troubleshooting steps: Go do some exercise fatty.
Part of the problem with this is also that not all people gain weight at the same rate. Some people have to spend every waking moment watching their figure, or they begin to pick up a few pounds. On the other side of the scale, though, I know someone who claims to eat a lot or as much as any other person but is so bone thin to the point of disgusting.
I understand wanting to lower child obesity, but I think there are better ways of doing it than banning people from something that they spent so much money out of pocket for. “Oh, your fat, guess you can’t play your $500 gaming console or go online.”
The fuck does Microsoft have the right to “teach” anyone a “lesson”?
Some people are simply born fat and it may be very hard for them to even became any less fat. I know at least one person that has that, why do you feel you need to do something against them anyway? If they really have a problem with it they could do it themselves anyway.
This is simply discrimination, and not something of the 21st century.
WANTING people to be healthy is not the same as PUNISHING people for not being “healthy”. As I said, it’s discrimination and that’s just wrong.
Next to all that, the thought of fat = unhealthy isn’t even very true, infact people who are slightly overweight often live longer than people who are not. The idea of people wanting to be slim is just an idea thought up by the media. In most old cultures, being fat was a symbol of having a good life.
