Windows 8 will let you play 360 games.
Took them long enough to get over themselves.

Only way I can see that working is if they have made specific PC executables for the games because otherwise they’d have to emulate it and you’d need a pretty beasty computer to emulate the X360 properly.
Oh and before someone comes up with the “oh, the x360 uses the exact same hardware as a PC”, no it doesn’t, the console uses a PowerPC based custom triple-core CPU made by IBM and some more additional custom hardware.
looks at title of the video
It would be awesome. I’ve wasted money on my Xbox, and never touched it since 2009. And I have plenty of games I don’t play on it. I hope it’s true.
Says may there, if you listen to the video it’s basically a ‘will’ as the details of the service have already been released.
Mkay.
I’m kind of interested as to how it will be done, though.
Like Maxey said, the hardware in the 360 is different. I had thought the CPU architecture was the same, but if it isn’t I suppose emulation is how it has to go down. Maybe they discovered some magical secret that allowed them to emulate without noticeable performance problems.
That guy was a shit presenter. Was there not a less…shitty way of telling us that?
Honestly, I think the whole thing is just bollocks.
They’re basing this rumor off of some code some guy found out in a beta of Windows 8 and it could be anything from just X360 gamepad support to Kinect support.
MS makes too much money from selling consoles to consider something like this.
Yeah, if you’ve looked around there’s really very little evidence to that actually happening. Could just be something like Media center extender, except not.
Until I see proof otherwise, I’m gonna go with “bullshit.”
It would be sweet to play 360 games on a PC (since I’m not ponying up 200+ for a console that I’ll rarely use) but I just don’t see it happening. Apparently there is some mild substantiation to this rumor, but it still seems so far-fetched that I just don’t buy it.
They should at least make this possible to do with Xbox only games, i.e. Xbox games that you can’t play on the 360. I’d like to play far cry instincts again, without having to setup my old brick of an Xbox for the one game.
In case you guys don’t know, when you build a game for 360 using Visual Studio XNA, it automatically creates a Project that makes the game compatible for Windows (or at least, there is a setting for that). Thus, you can create a game once, in one Project, that will compile and run on both platforms.
That said, I’m not sure if 360 disks that are currently available have both versions on them (PC and Xbox) or if this is moreso a “going forward” idea. The resources should be the same (since XNA supports mp3s, jpegs for textures, etc) so I would imagine only the logic should change (physics, AI, etc) due to CPU differences. Just spitballing, of course, I’m not an expert on the subject.
Yeah, it’s not like anyone would’ve noticed by now.
Also, what Maxey said.
XNA is mostly used for Live Arcade and Indie titles, major games like Gears or Halo aren’t built on XNA.
I hope it doesn’t happen. It’s not fun to have one omnipotent machine handling all of your entertainment. I want to hassle with hardware and cry over cables
Unless this means that we’ll be able to mod the games, in which case holy smokes I’ll let you pee on me if it means i can still pay you for windows 8
i just hope I can finally pirate red dead redemption
Can’t you just steal a 360?
This is obviously going to happen, I mean look, look at this indisputable evidence:
EDIT: since for a second i almost forgot how retarded everyone is, this was huge sarcasm. there is nothing, absolutely nothing, in the code above to suggest anything like what is being rumored. maybe there’s a little integration between xbox live and windows 8, but expecting anything more than the amount of integration with windows phone 7 would be very dumb
lol, we’ll be able to reserve crashes?
Too bad… We will not be able to call EA’s “pc games” console ports anymore… as they will be in fact console games… and the world as we know it will end…
