Why are they giving it away for free? THQ’s taking (or it was, not sure how well the bundle did), so why aren’t they selling the game and trying to get money? Maybe they’re trying to generate hype for Last Light so it’ll sell well? I don’t know.

This would be it, the more people who play the original the more people potentially interested in the sequel.

Not the first time they do it. They’ve given away Metro for free a couple of times in the past already.
Sometime back then I wanted to buy it during Steam Sales but missed it, fuck yeah!
I just got a copy from the THQ humble bundle…
Now I’m out $5.63 and all I have to show for it is eight other games and a DLC. 
You poor, poor thing.
Wow, didn’t expect such an amazingly great game to pop up for free out of no where. Not for years, if you exclude Black Mesa.
Was thinking of getting this a couple if weeks ago. Glad I waited!
While I initially enjoyed Metro I eventually stopped playing.
Stealthing doesn’t seem to work and I found that enemies would take 10 bullets to kill and only drop a 3 -5 bullets themselves. Then I ended up in a part of the game where I had to blow up some tunnels and was being attacked by endlessly spawning monsters and I had no idea how or which tunnels to blow up. I blew up some, but it didn’t seem to complete the section, so I gave up after running back and forth for 20 minutes.
The AI is a little touchy but if you do it right you can complete most sections without alerting anyone.
What difficulty were you playing on? I just finished Ranger hardcore and 99% of enemies would die after 2 shots at the most. You’re right about the minuscule ammo though, though that’s on Ranger Hardcore.
The character you’re following tells you there are two things you have to do at that section and if you’re stuck you can look at your compass and it’ll tell you pretty much where to go and what to do.
Tried starting it up and all I got was an error message saying some .dll file was missing -___- hopefully, reinstalling will fix it.
I got that error and fixed it by just restarting steam.
I really like the game, but there are a number of very frustrating parts that I kept getting stuck at. To name a few…
- I kept getting random gameovers in the D6 crane segment, with no reason given.
- After sending out that radio message to Polis, I spent about half an hour running around until I finally found the hole I needed to take hidden underneath a nondescript block of concrete.
- Miller kept getting killed by the Amoebas because he kept on walking ahead, ignoring them, while I tired to kill the thingies they spawn from.
- I fell off the same catwalk to my death several times during one level, and had to redo a very difficult firefight each time.
Also, I completely ran out of ammo during the last segment. I had to knife a demon to death.
Edit: Beat the game, and I even got the secret/good ending!
Pretty cool that they do the same thing as Valve did with Portal.

Have you gotten to the part on the surface with the Nazis yet? Not sure how far through the game that is. Anyway, I managed to complete that part without alerting anyone. I did most of the Nazi camp without alerting anyone too. It’s not impossible but it is pretty difficult to do.
I just killed everyone. Stealth usually doesn’t work out that well for me.
