Memorable Moments in Black Mesa?

Do you have any particular moments that you like, and think they are memorable to you? I sure have some.

  • The Questionable Ethics lobby battle, simply because of the action, and the uplifting battle music, the correlation between the two go together really well.

  • The first time you ever pick up the Hivehand. I love it because of how Freeman reacts to sticking his hand up the little gun’s bumhole.

When you’re on the cliffs and the harrier swoops down to take out the building in the distance, followed by a huge explosion and shockwaves. I was thinking “Holy crap, shit just got real!” At that moment I felt that Black Mesa was superior to the original.

this very much. I saw them swoop over the cliff and I stopped moving to watch them, thinking “I wonder if this is going anywhere…”

When I saw the shockwave approaching, all I could think was “Oh my god.”

Also memorable was the first encounter with the Garg, watching it absolutely destroy the marines. I remember sprinting past the charred corpses on the ground and fearing for my life

so many to chose, I would say when you get to blast the hell out of the helicopter.

The first time I saw the Inbound background on the main menu and chose “New Game”.

Grabbing the snarks, crawling through that vent, tickled pink that I’d get to enjoy watching the little fuckers devour the two soldiers like Air-Phirrana.

They shoot me out of the vent as I ready myself.

Giant Goddamn Gargantua in front of me…

SNARKS![/SIZE]

That part was so “HOLY SHIT”, but I just wish that feeling extended to the actual fight, but due to the glitch that makes the garg fall in love with the water tower, it became underwhelming.

Still though, I was afraid they wouldn’t have the scene where the vent gets riddled with holes but I think having the garg there made it better then the original version

I really appreciate the finer details, such as the bullet holes that appear as they shoot the vent. The BMS team take the Source engine to places I have never seen before, and I played my fair share of Valve games and Source Mods.

So many… but the lobby battle in QE and the tentacle coming through the window in BP were particularly spectacular.

There’s a few memorable moments. For me some outstanding moments was the tram ride, the jets that blew up the buildings in the distance when you’re on the cliffs, and most notably the first time I saw the Hydro Dam!!!

  1. The rain of mortar shells in We Got Hostiles.

  2. The first time you get out of the tunnel exit that leads to the cliff side, seeing two jets fly in front of you, as well as the breathtaking landscape.

  3. The final battle with the attack helicopter. The music made it incredibly epic. Joel Nielsen is a genius.

  4. The Hive Hand pick up.

  5. The Manta Rays and fighter jets dogfighting in the skies above.

Everything you guys just wrote, pretty much. But the test failure was also epic, along with the whole test chamber. My favourite part though was definatley seeing the way improved Xen teleporter, being all
“Wow! This is so awesome, just look at that thing!” etc.

The whole mod pretty much, but if I had to choose just one, then it’s the whole soundtrack !!!

I absolutely loved how the hand hive was installed !

“Prepare your … alienus”
:fffuuu:

I remember making a barricade with crates and barrels just before the ambush in On a rail, and then just shooting up all the grunts behind it with the help of the security guard there. It was one of the best moments for me.

I also love killing the two HECU soldiers that are talking about you when you get to the surface in that same chapter. On a rail will remain one of my favorite chapters, eventhough it was cut.

The ambush in QE was just…amazing and totally unexpected, in my head I was like “Holy shit”.

There are a great many memorable moments through out. But two that stand out the most for me.

While I was F***ing around I accidentally pushed a button at the security desk. The dialog that ensued was my favorite moment.

My second was the first step out after the cascade. The scientist that was trying to revive the security guard. This scene really set the tone, made the hairs on my nape rise.

A memorable moment for me overall is the improved interaction between you and your colleagues. Like in the Office Complex where a whole team follows you up until you reach the elevator shaft and only you can make the jump or the science en security guard team in Questionable Ethics! I like the emotional depth they’ve added.

In Half-Life 1 I would shoot a security guard just for the fun of it but in Black Mesa I really feel for the guy. I like it…

-> Epic QE ambush is epic.
-> Looking at the clock when the Tram announcer says “the time is 8:47 am” and its actually 8:47 am on my clock.
-> Clicking “New Game” for the first time.
-> Amazing Black Mesa Inbound.
-> Interaction between player and NPC.
-> The goddam Tau-laser in QE (he one used to blast a hole in the wall)
-> Harriers blowing the shit outta the BMRF Entrance.
-> Harrier fly-by as you enter the cliffs.
-> The various “experiments” in QE
-> The whole Lambda Core chapter.
-> Setting up trip-mines and explosive barrels next to them to kill the unsuspecting HECU squad.
