Nah, man. I survived the first Gears of War. It makes this game’s cinematic editing look like a soap opera.
So it runs well? That is good. I’ve got it downloading now.
i5 @ 3.5GHz
HD 5870
8GBs RAM
It automatically set very high for textures, high for everything else, no tessellation, and max FXAA.
But does it deel like a Max Payne game? With the brooding storyline and Norse mythology and Internal monologue and fucked up dream sequences? Shit, better have some Lords and Ladies and Address Unknown in there too for extra fanboy points.
It’s got baseball bat boy.
If there’s a fucked up dream sequence I haven’t reached it yet.
In terms of tone and style, it’s very different from the past two games, it’s really dark and heavy handed. The plot is completely realistic in this one, no weird supernatural stuff, which is a bit of a shame.
As for the gameplay, it improves on everything the prequels did. The cover system is only really needed in a handful of occasions but other than you can ignore it at all.
Haven’t played MP much yet, just a couple of rounds, but it seems to be quite fun.
Yeah i was thinking back, I really miss the supernatural stuff. The first Max Payne freaked me out when I first played it
Also lol try diving backwards onto a long set of stairs. Max slides down in what sounds like a lot of pain
EDIT: Fuck I can’t continue playing the story. I get halfway through the chapter 7 intro cutscene and it goes black, and plays for a while and i can still enter the menu, but the steam overlay gets really fucked up too with artifacts, and then the game crashes.
Guess some multiplayer for me
One thing I also like, when you quit the game.
“All I did was making it worst.”
“There were nothing left for me.”
This is really pissing me off, I want to continue playing so bad but it keeps fucking up in that cutscene
Tried unchecking “enable Steam overlay in-game”?
Yeah I did that and it didn’t work. I just played MP for a while and eventually after trying it again it worked so I got passed it
I died on the sniper in the graveyard part like 5 times and decided to quit and try again tomorrow . This is the first game I’ve ever played on hard first (or really at all), I usually play medium. I’m pretty happy that it is difficult.
Are the first two games necessary to understand what is going on in the third one?
Not really, but there’s a lot of callbacks that you’ll definitely miss.
Yeah just come out of my first session now. I know Max Payne games never skimp on the difficulty, but I’m only playing on medium and I’m dying a fair bit.
A quick summary;
-I love the cinematic death/bullet time segments, really ramped up nicely from MP 1 & 2.
-What I hate is the overdone TV/static/colour effects in…well, ALL the cutscenes. It’s bloody annoying. And the popup snippets of speech on screen, that wore thin very fast…eh I find I prefered the original comic book pages overall.
-But back to things I love, the refined controls and bullet time. Only mildly streamlined, but effective.
-Although things I hate, that refinement has kinda removed a real jump button, and diving/rolling without slowmo.
-BUT back to things I love, damn it’s a pretty game, runs really well on my system, although sadly I don’t have the grunt to run the max settings across three screens. I’d have to drop to say, medium and dx9, so for now, I’m sticking to one screen, but max settings. Gorgeous.
-BUT back to things I hate, I miss the ‘p button’ pause menu where it just orbited around max. Best feature in MP2 for screenies. It shall be missed.
-BUT I love that they kept the messages on exit. As always the music is excellent, I love the injoke at the start with max playing the piano, and the cut-off cello chords during gameplay. Very tense.
So yeah…I’m torn a bit. The return of max payne gameplay and that gritty James McCaffery voice have gotten me sitting in my chair going EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! like a fangirl…but some of the stylistic choices and presentation of the game has me going eeeeh
We shall see. I’m only on chapter five.
Yeah, the effects during the cutscenes are really really overused. I just want to admire the beautiful cutscenes but can’t because of it going out of focus and changing colors all the time.
I’m also kind of annoyed that some of the cutscenes are prerendered and that the loading times are pretty long for some reason.
Exactly. Kinda makes it hard to get some nice screenshots. The load times I’ve not really noticed that much myself, but if you’re seeing long ones on your pc, I’d hate to imagine what they’re like on the consoles. I’ll keep my eye on them at my end.
It’s 6: 30 am. Try and sleep, or more MP3. As if I need to ask…
Yeah, I expect them to be really short but I’ve tried skipping cutscenes and it always says “still loading” at the bottom. Granted, I did it in arcade mode, so maybe it’s different in the actual campaign. I wouldn’t think so though.
did diving too far in MP2 damage you? I mean yeah, if you jumped off a balcony, you’d get fucked up… but I just jumped off the top of a shipping container, and it took a pretty big chunk of health. Maybe they’ve reduced the height at which you can dive damage free :x
EDIT: newsflash; using the sprint button makes you run a whole 1% faster
Sprint seems more for MP. You run a lot faster with sprint there.
Also shootdodging in MP is making for some very memorable moments
And i dove out a window to try and escape a guy killing me, hit my body on the staircase railing, and spiraled down to the ground where I landed headfirst and it said “suicide”
Most fun suicide I’ve ever done.
Also, you can’t do the spiral pause menu like MP2 but you CAN press ESC and then hit a key to hide the menu, which is great when you find that perfect moment in the cinematic camera
