Making a Headcrab Plushie

Okay, I know this is a bit of a long shot, but does anyone have any experience sewing together plushies? I’m having a rookie time with this headcrab plushie.

I’m following this tutorial:
https://isismasshiro.deviantart.com/#/d3exxcd

So far, mine looks just like the 5-7th pictures, but from there on, I have no clue as to how to progress…

Any help from you sweet, nice, kind strangers?

Were you the one who made the Dog Model as well hanging from your computer monitor?

Head crab looks good for a do it “yourselfer” Is it possible to make the mouth with the teeth on the belly (Only relative to where our bellies are) or is that too time consuming?

^ Yeah, that was awesome.

You might want to add a darker tan color like the real game one, but just slightly.
I honestly didn’t like the official Plushie because of its color.

Looks great though, much better than Valve’s.

Err… If you read my plead for help, I haven’t made it yet. The picture is someone else’s handiwork, I need help repeating it myself.

I’m at the 5th step, and I don’t know how the tutorial transfers into step 6… (where it goes into all the limbs somehow squeezed underneath the body panels)

It’s supposed to seal up, but I don’t know how to get the body inside out, stuffed and attached to the limbs all at once… if that makes sense to anyone out there ;-;

-snip-

I don’t think I understand that remark :frowning:

not to sound like a dick or anything, but that looks more like a cooked chicken than it does a Headcrab.

Yeah, but I don’t mind. It’s the easiest build I’ve seen, so I’ll go for it…

I think what it’s saying is you attach the legs to one piece of fabric (as in picture five) then fold the legs in (over top of that piece of fabric) so they’re no longer sticking out. Then sew the other half of the body on top (ala pictures 6 & 7) leaving a hole near the rear end so you can pull it all right side out when you’re finished? At that point you should be able to fill the hole with stuffing and seal it?

I don’t know much about sewing, so I don’t know if that’s how it’s suppose to work

Good luck though, if you ever figure it out you should make a poison headcrab next

Thanks, but the final product shows the limbs and body being in separate little… sacs. Turning it inside out and keeping it all sealed seems paradoxical. Also, the limbs were already turned right-side out and stuffed in the fourth image…

And yes, if I figure this out, I’ll probably try my hand at other Half-Life creatures, but this is the guy you should really talk to: https://isismasshiro.deviantart.com/

I think I might have explained what I meant poorly; the legs are already finished when you attach them to the large piece of fabric in picture 5. Once you have the legs attached just fold them over that piece of fabric so you can sew the other large piece over top - when you look at image 6 & 7 you can see it bulges where the legs are on the inside - there’s still a small opening at the rear end where you can pull the legs through in order to turn the whole thing right-side out.

Sort of see what I’m saying? Once you get it to look like picture 6 & 7 all you have to do is turn it inside out and it ‘should’ look like the finished product once you stuff it. I have no idea how you’re suppose to seal the rear end without it looking silly, but I’m drawing blanks on any alternative methods.

Edit - Here are some crappy paint edits to explain what I mean:

Thanks, but as you can see in the next 2 pictures, the stitches go all the way around the body pieces, seemingly sealing everything inside… You may also be entirely right and I’m an idiot… I’ll see what I can do.

And, yes, the final seal-up stitch will look silly. You can find a silly-final-stitch-mark on most every hand-made plush, it’s inevitable. Toy makers often get around it my making the material fuzzy enough not to notice many of the seams.

EDIT: Also, if I tried exactly what you suggested, the hole wouldn’t be big enough to fit the limbs back outside.

Hmm I don’t know then; I did see the stitch marks going all the way around in 6 & 7 but I can’t think of any way for you to get the legs out if there wasn’t a gap somewhere. How could you possibly turn the thing the right way out if there isn’t a hole somewhere?

Edit - Just read through the comments on the Deviantart page, someone asked how you turn the body inside out and the creator responded with “I left a hole between frontlegs during sewing the body-pieces together.”

There you go I guess :stuck_out_tongue: Definitely confusing image instructions to follow though hah.

If it’s kicking your ass so much, you should just scrapbuild it. Templates are for suckeroonies as it is.

My headcrab was made of an m1 helmet with ripped up beige t-shirts and spray paint.

Pics please

Old shit. Also tape. I’d love to make a new one.

I think that sentence contradicts the image… but it makes sense nonetheless. Thank you man, I may actually finish this.

I’ll post pics when I’m done, but it’s sort of unimpressive. I just used a white t-shirt for fabric and the stitching is very mediocre. But it’s a first draft anyway.

That’s really cool, I like it. But I like my RL Headcrabs to be soft and cuddle-able because I’m a total faggot.
