Machine gun (mp5)

First of all, I think you guys did a really great job. I’ll write up some kind of full report when I’m finished with the game.

However, I want to say something about the mp5. I really, really hate 3 shot burst. When it comes to video games, I think it is my biggest pet peeve of anything.

Anyway, I don’t care if its kept in, as long as there is an option to set it so that one round at a time can be fired. And if someone can tell me how to just, like, I don’t know go into the code and change it I’ll do that and be on my way.

Thanks.

I dislike the burst fire as well, most of the weapons lack any real impact, and it doesn’t help that the soldiers can react so quickly. I can see why the 357 was used so much in the trailer, it’s the only gun strong and fast enough to save you a few hit points.

I keep hearing people mention 3 shot burst, I promise to god I just finished the game – and mine is fully automatic.

Absolutely 100% fully automatic, not even a hint of burst fire with my SMG. Really great game, love the end too – can’t wait for Xen.

P.S.

The crossbow rocks too, even though it shoots crooked and clips objects that aren’t anywhere near the xhair.

The mp5 is not the weapon you use vs the marines, .357 or crossbow or shotgun works well. Once you get the bugs too, it makes dealing with marines super easy.

When you hold the fire button it is full auto, but just tapping it will always fire 3 shots, even when you want one, and sometimes if you mash the button a few times rather than holding it, it will fire a tiny bit after you release the mouse button to “finish” it’s final burst.

I think it should go back to the original aswell. Fully auto all the way. Click once, get one bullet, hold, get many many bullets.

I’m actually ok with the burst, I just wish it was a little stronger.

Most of the time I only use it for the nade launcher and it’s a shame because I really love how it looks and feels aside from the damage

Interesting. I didn’t notice a burst effect either. It just shoots really fast when you fire so it probably seems like it’s burst fire. I’ve been able to barely tap the fire button on my mouse and it has shot 1 shot on numerous occasions. I used it to get some long range kills on military forces.

I bound it to a keyboard key and my mouse wheel so I can test if it was burst or fast, it’s burst stop lying.

You’re just too slow to press the key then.

It is burst fire, you’re just not paying attention. Raminator said it is burst when someone asked if you could change fire mods.

I’m not a huge fan of the burst, either.

Yeah, anyway, it’s definitely burst. And, as I said earlier, it’s fine to accommodate those who enjoy burst - just so long as those who prefer true full auto are as well.

I’m concerned with the sound the mp5 makes, that is that it is somewhat lackluster. Incidentally, this is true of the original mp5 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkfGnCQoLDE&feature=player_detailpage#t=77s). Of course, this was remedied with the m16 from the HD pack which had, truly, one of the greatest reports of any weapon ever found in an FPS videogame (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkfGnCQoLDE&feature=player_detailpage#t=251s)

So I recently replayed HL1 on hard mode, and it turns out the mp5/m16 is, however great its sound, pretty weak against enemies. I could never play HL1 on hard mode rambo style, at least with that rifle. Nevertheless, the m16 was great to shoot and I would love if it were added to BMS source, its muzzle report included.

There are a lot of really great sounds to choose from. I’ve taken the liberty of posting some of my favorites:
From Farcry - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RPfvuFv4-A&feature=player_detailpage#t=146s
Left 4 Dead - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RPfvuFv4-A&feature=player_detailpage#t=285s
Bad Company 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw2PfCPN7_I&feature=player_detailpage#t=38s

And, of course, none of these really sound like the real thing

I was kind of weirded out by the burst fire at first. But now I got used to it after using it a good amount.

It’s no big deal.

Suggestion for the MP5:
clicking primary fire = 3-shot-burst with no recoil and a little delay (for longer-range shots),
holding primary fire = full-auto-fire
secondary fire = assaultgrenade with HL2 style flyarch (!)… (atm the flyarch is too CoD-like)
Also, when you shoot a nade it should spawn from the center of your crosshair. atm it spawns a lot
lower, which resulted in a lot of selfkills  (you have the same problem with the crossbow. the bolt never spawns from your crosshair.)
And I think the ammo-limits should generally get changed to like they were in the original. I rarely used my ARgrenades because I always wanted to be economical ^^

What the hell is this about the MP5 only having 3-round burst?
I don’t know about you guys, but my MP5 only fires in burst when I tap the mouse. Holding it down provides full-auto fire.

YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG.
HOLD. DOWN. THE. LEFT. CLICK.

Yeah but maybe all people don’t want to hold down and go nuts?
I want to controll the bursts myself. I don’t want the game to do it for me!

Exactly. And people want theirs to fire single rounds when tapping, rather than three-round bursts. Why has this proven so hard to comprehend that multiple people have missed the point so far?

I don’t see what the big deal is. If I want to fire off a single round, I use the glock.

In general the MP5 just sucks overall and needs buffing imo.

Also the grenades seem really under powered to me. you basically have to hit an enemy dead on to kill them

If I want to shoot single shots I use the Glock. :3

why waste time changing weapons if the mp5 could fire single shots ??
