Hey! It’s made HL2-style so even you people can grasp the concept!
I didn’t want to pay over 9000 dollars for a crappy Apple-certified mac, so I simply built my own PC, and now I’m running both Windows 7 and I’ve modified my bios so that I was able to boot a hackintosh install DVD and install it properly.
So essentially, as a slut once said; You get the best of both worlds.
Pretty much spot on I like the Linux description as its true Linux is great if you can work it I cannot so its pissing me off to even turn on my laptop.
So is there a consensus that Linux, as long as you know how to use it, is the best OS?
Linux isn’t THAT hard to use… if you really want an effortless and easy-to-use distribution of Linux, try out Ubuntu. There are a lot of harder to use distributions out there, but Ubuntu is almost fool proof.
Depends on your skills and needs. As OP said, there is no OS better than the others. Just OS’ that suits your needs and abilities.
Macs have viruses too. They just have less, because the point of a virus is to propagate, and there are much more windoze PCs around to propagate too so it’s a better target for maximum impact than Macs are, tho that is changing as more people get Macs.
Given that Macs have Unix under the hood these days, the thought would be like most unixen that damage would be limited, but there are issues none the less that allow root escellation etc so are just as bad as any that hit a windoze admin user (which most are).
Nah. Mac is for people who want something simple, windows is for people who want to do stuff without having to tinker and just be able to get in and use something, and Linux is all about customization and utilizing your computer to do whatever you want it to, assuming you know what you’re doing.
Like what was said above, there’s no best OS, but each one is specialized for a different userbase.
Those labels aren’t definitive though, you can get into some pretty messy stuff in OSX if you have the know-how, and it’s much better for programming then Windows any day.
Well, the problem is mac is written in unix, windows is written in c, 100% of games are made for c computers, 20% are made for unix computers, so in my opinion PC are better than macs cuz windows can do everything macs can and play 80% more of game.
again I rest my point
oh ya also forgot to say the reason macs have less viruses than PC is because 95% of the world uses PC and the 5% that dont dont get viruses.
P.S I agree that mac os is way better if u dont what to deal with all thoughs compatiblity issues and so on and so forth, but PC can do it all, now isf you want a computer that can run Mac OS and windows than buy a mac cuz you can put windows on a mac cuz for some reason (i dont really know why) PC bios isnt compatible with UNIX based operating systems.
The biggest thing is I bet virus makers use windows (or maybe Linux) and it is probably much much easier to make a virus for an os you are familiar with.
I rather think you have no idea what you are talking about - unix is an OS or flavour thereof, while C is a programming language, that unix is almost 100% written in.
The reason is not that the BIOS isn’t compatible with unix, but rather the stuff Apple put into the OSX installer looks for Apple hardware only, which most PC stuff out there is not.
Also, don’t double-post.
Very true. Also something that is changing a bit now tho as prices come down.
ur probably right, and ya just to let people know im running the Windows 7 RTM Beta, and i think it the best windows yet
That I can agree with, except that RTM comes after Beta.
my mistake
I’m planning on buying 7 when it comes out. So do you think there are any hints of the problems many people complained about with Vista (memory hog, crashing, etc.)? Also, do you think I should buy it once it comes out, or wait until a few of the bugs are worked out? And what about compatibility with older software? (I said you but anyone can answer this)
Being an early adopter always has it’s risks, but from what I’ve heard it’s way better than Vista (some even say better than XP).
I guess it depends on what you are worried about. Security-wise it’s always better to be a version behind rather than out on the bleading edge, but in terms of other things, given how much better than Vista it seems to be, it’d be worth the jump now if that’s what you are running…
Nah, I’m on pirated xp. It’s shit (the pirated part, not the xp part). I think I will get 7 mainly because I am sick of dealing with an os that crashes my computer every time I install a new driver and because if I’m gonna buy a new os I wanna get one with a ton of fancy gadgets.
As far as macs “never breaking down”, my mom owns a macbook and the reason it “never breaks down” is because instead of easily being able to fix it yourself, you send it in to the fucking apple store constantly to get it fixed. For me this means a fucking half hour drive to the oakbrook mall so they can take a look at it. This doesn’t count all the times I fix it myself.
My mom’s laptop has a million heating issues, overheats all the fucking time, screen goes in and out sometimes, fucking a million problems. This isn’t just my mom’s because almost all the friends I know who own a mac laptop have to buy those stupid ass laptop cooling pads and still have heating issues. But we always have to send it in to apple to fix it, which you usually have to pay for anyway one way or another between their apple insurance thing or outright.
PC just about anybody can fix, within minutes if not just restarting it. And if it’s a hardware issue, then you can just fucking put in the new piece yourself, at minimal cost and cutting out the middleman.
I’ve had my PC for years, and been able to steadily update the parts for it all the time, wasting minimal money while being on top of the newer hardware. My PC has never had to be sent in for repair. I even had vista for the longest time. (OH NOES NOT VISTA!!!1) Only idiots say vista had huge issues. If you know more than the average rock, you can turn off the annoying shit that actually helped keep your computer more secure even though it was a minor nuisance, it was only a resource hog because it used ram to make your computer run much faster, and as far as “Mac invented fucking searching for shit on your computer” that’s fucking retarded, because that’s the next logical step if you have faster processors and more ram, to fucking use it to make things faster. Just like how retarded it would be if “PC” people started complaining that microsoft fucking invented intel processors and dual booting.
Tl;Dr - Mac didn’t invent shit, they stole it from linux anyway, PC stands for personal computer which covers everything from the abacus to every random ass computer company out there, and mac’s shit is expensive and if you like the OS so damn much get a fucking hackintosh.
if I were to accurately describe the mac compared to normal computers, that would be “macs are like laptops but designed paying attention only to the exterior design, with no setup and no bios, made by a weird OEM company that denies the existence of software that’s better than their own”.
