Loss of Interest in BM?

:circling the thread… waiting for it:

i understood ALL your posts - you pulled this “How dare you demand new media bal bla bla.” out of your ass as an excuse to argue/flame, using the And the same phrases I’ve seen hundreds of times, verbatim, in reactionary flames. I NEVER said ANYTHING like that. It’s annoying. None of that shiot has anything to do with what I wrote, none of it, and I’ve repeated this over and over - you’re clueless and annoying.

Again, if you have a REAL disagreement, have at it, hoss. the other stuff is crap that has nothing to do with me or my post.

What point? Dude - it’s the same TFS BS as usual. there is no point, it’s mindless flaming. Worthless spam.

Edit: I should give him an extra day for calling me a dood.

Yes, you should

Ok, it has to be done…

Nobody knows exactly how close to completion they are. However, information given to us, as well as hints and subtle clues, along with actually talking to the devs, indicated that we are still a minimum of a month away from release.

Anything beyond that is conjecture. It’s also pretty safe to say it’ll be released this year. Don’t quote me on that though.

Well, based on the information given, it’s likely to be completed. Based on talking to the devs, because they are real people y’know, it will be completed. They’ve put too much work into this just to give up and go home. Once it’s done, they’ll release it and they’ll be damn happy it’s finally done and dusted and out of their hands. They’ve devoted huge amounts of time to the project and they want it released as much as we do. Sure, there’s no hard evidence to say that the mod will be released, but let’s give them some credit. There is a possibility of the mod dying, but there’s also a possibility of the entire team being hit by a bus on the same day. It could happen, but is it really likely?

I wasn’t around to watch those flames, but to be fair, it’s not the same thing.

Those were doubts about a given release date. Here people are doubting a release altogether. The reason they’ve not given a second release date is because people would doubt that and they might miss it and there’d be more flames and more attacks and more crying cockroaches. So we’ve just got a release to look forward to; no date.

Personally, they annoy me (on average) equal amounts. Some people just don’t get it. They think they can waltz in here and demand media like the devs owe them something. They can do it, of course, they have that right… Freedom of expression. But equally the community has the right to flame them to a crisp for being an ass and trying to force the devs to do something because they feel the devs owe the community. Sure, innocent cockroaches get caught in the crossfire… It’s the price you pay I guess. They should read the FAQ and be spared the flames. Really; it’s all in there.

But yes, sometimes the same old flames get tired and often they’re used against people that merely sound like they deserve it.

Some of the people here get away with far too much, just because they’re regulars.

But now the interesting part… I didn’t have much against you about your original post or the next two or so… However, after that you became a condescending twat and I have lost all respect for you over the course of this thread. You try to come off all high and mighty using fancy words from a Critical Thinking class you were forced to take, but you used them ham-handedly which shows that you’re not nearly as intellectual as you try to pretend to be. Try harder next time. Have a little patience and stop being so damn arrogant. It doesn’t fly here. Apart from Ram and fridgehinge, don’t pick fights with mods and devs, and especially don’t be rude to Catz > :frowning:

As for the rest of ya, he was right for a little… You did paint him with the same brush and he didn’t fall into that category. At least as far as ‘demanding media’ goes. Beyond that, see above.

Mmm, I think that’s about all… if you want me to justify or explain anything, give a shout.

Regards,

:s lowclap: Well put. While our guest got a nice ban for allowing a stupid banter to continue, your post was well thought out, and explained a lot about what is and isnt going on.

In short, the devs missed the 2009 and we all cried over it. Everyone. Devs and fans included. But at some point we all need to get over it and go back to waiting patiently for whatever they can afford to give us.

Remember folks, this is not a matter of IF but a matter of WHEN. Carry on with your lives if you need to keep sane… or feel free to take your trolling back to the youtube channel comments area. That place is riddled with wonderful top notch trolls that would LOVE to have members join their ranks.

I totally can understand where you guys are coming from with the “It will done when it is done” mentality. A mod this large in scope is obviously going to run into more than its fair share of snags during production.

However, since it has been nearly or in excess of 5 years in the making and at least 6 months overdue from your last planned release date, I am just curious in what would be the harm of giving us a bit more of a bone. Perhaps a rough idea on percentage complete or something along those lines.

The only reason I ask this is that I’m sure it’s going through alot of peoples minds. A small morsel, a crumb even would be great.

Thanks and again, we always appreciate what this team is doing for the community.

Peace, Defender

Unfortunately, any official figure of any sort can be easily misconstrued and used against the developers.

If you don’t mind a bit of community speculation, we’re looking at a release this year, a minimum of a month from this post. The main tasks now are likely consisting primarily of fine-tuning aesthetics, play testing, bug fixing.

Of course, for the reason stated above, the dev team is unable to confirm or deny this and is unavailable for comment at this time. However when reached for comment they will respond with “We’re working on it, it’ll be done when it’s done. As far as percentage goes, about 7.”

So, I just got done reading opensolaris-discuss, where there’s a lot of FUD and back-and-forth sniping about the next OpenSolaris release. It’s late, has missed at least three promised release dates, and Oracle (Sun’s new owner) has refused to promise anything, leading to speculation that the project is dead.

Then I came here, and got a weird sense of deja-vu…

I’ve just got my new computer. All my interest in BM has magically come back.

Now to play TF2 with everyone.

Lets just all pray that there aren’t any major bugs found that would set this back even more.

Two questions that need to be answered:

  1. Were there problems with something to do with the source engine at any time?
  2. If so, is that effecting development?

PLEASE ANSWER!

If those questions need answered so badly then you might wish to ask them in here.

To throw my opinion in with the original intent of this thread (aside from covert whining) I’ve been lurking for 3 and a half years now waiting patiently for the mod. I will continue to wait patiently for the mod. The lack of any sort of official statement/media/etc., while disconcerting to me because I want to see the mod out soon, has been explained by many many mods in many different threads and I’m fine with it. If I have to wait 5 months or 5 more years for this game I will, and I will happily check the website and these forums daily if not more so until that happens.

Thank you dear. You are the type of gamer/fan that we suspect represent the majority of the BM fans. Those that are silent but patiently waiting.

Thanks for checking in!

Sheesh, it strikes me that a few more people need to get out and get lives around here… I don’t check the forums more than once a week these days, and when I do check in, I positively expect to see the same old “Release date: we’ve always gone for a “when it’s done” approach” and no fanfare (because nothing’s happened).

In this way, my life continues to be entirely satisfactory for three reasons:

  1. I have plenty of other pursuits to occupy my time.
  2. By not raising my expectations at all, I’m not constantly having them dashed; such repetitious minor denting of hope eventually becomes a big ding in your general confidence. Everything you wait for becomes tinged with bitterness and even when you receive the goods, you’ve got to find something to gripe about (how long it took to deliver, if nothing else).
  3. When the mod does finally come out, my life will have a small net improvement - the unexpected surprise will be genuinely satisfying and exciting, rather than a grudging or bitter “about fucking time” (which is blatantly going to form 90% of the content of these threads once the mod is released… you know I’m right too…:meh

We’re so future-paced as a species that we risk missing our lives entirely in the fruitless pursuit of the Next Big Thing. The species will figure out, when it’s all a bit too late, that it’s best to enjoy, and make the best of, what you’ve got, because you’ve got it (whatever “it” may be). Pinning your wishes on something you hope to get is a pointless, sad way to waste your life.

However, if that’s what you wish to do, carry on…

I just wish someone would put a small tidbit on the twitter. It’s been so long since the last update.

I already see it… “Tidbit (the smaller kind)”

twitter is ded, black mesa lives on.

My real question is what will come first, Half Life Episode 3 or BM

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
