Loss of Interest in BM?

There is plenty of media for a released product, let alone one that is still in production. It isn’t the developer’s fault if you aren’t happy with that. You can as many more shots as you want when it is released.

The entire mod is being worked on. All of it. It is both 0% and 100% complete at the same time. Asking for any more information is like asking what part of a car the Ford plant is working on right now. They are working on all of the parts on many cars at the same time.

Here’s your reason: They’ve shown just about every single part of the game in the media. With the exception of Xen shots and other blacklisted stuff that we won’t see until we play the game, there’s literally nothing else to take a picture of. Seriously, what more do you want? A speedrun?

I haven’t really thought about it that way, but it really does fit the bill, as we (the people waiting for it) can’t see in the box, can we? Nope.Schrödinger’s mod Indeed

You guys put Catz in a box??? :fffuuu:

I don’t think they are looking for constant screenshots. Then again, maybe they are, which has no real purpose.

Personally, I’d just like to see one of the mod team members post a short little “Hey, we haven’t died, we’re working on the mod. We just finished such and such section of the game. Have a nice day etc…” I’ve seen too many cool game mods just disappear. And although I do have faith that everything is still underway, the lack of updates on the site is rather unnerving. I don’t give a damn for screenshots. I just want a “Hey, we’re alive and still at work.”

Well played.

I luv everything about Black Mesa with the exeption of one thing.

Their PR is just bad, im sorry, but I really have no idea why or how it could be so bad. It just saddens me that they do everything else so well, but just suck at one thing. I love you devs! But I Are Not a Snicker Doodle!

Catz, you speak of us - “the fan base”, as though of some horde of evil zombies, yet you do not ask yourself where would you be were you not part of the dev team. You split the dev team from the horde as though both groups are different species from different planets, when in reality one can not do without the other. The mod needs its fans and the fans need the mod. So, do try and make the two work nicely together please. Let’s go for an “everyone’s happy” scenario here, eh? Some short mod progress updates once a month won’t kill anyone, but will keep everyone happy, I think. Will give the loyal masses strength to go on waiting.

OI, Don’t pick on Cat, have you even SEEN her avatar…See them dance, see how happy they… don’t you want to be happy like them…ahhhhhhh

wtf are you going on about vinndawg

Therein lies the fallacy. Everyone won’t be happy. Never will there be a condition wherein everyone is happy. It’s not possible.

So, since you can’t ever make everyone happy, why waste time doing pointless stuff to theoretically keep the community morale higher (like posting screenshots or constant news updates)?

Believe it or not, but the developers’ aspirations here do not revolve around doing things to attempt to appease you, or any other whining fan; their goal is to create this mod, and that’s just what they’re doing. Anything and every single thing else they do to make you happy (like the tons of previously released media and updates) is something above and beyond what they set out to do.

Man-up, grow a pair, and realize that you do not deserve anything at all from these people - be glad you’re getting this mod at all.

I’ve seen on the forums from different people just stateing their own personal opinions that the PR for this mod sucks, lets be honest it does, its no secret. But I dont think any new media is the answer because there is plenty already as far as I’m concerned. I dont want to see every map or charecter before I play the game for the first time. Too many spoilers are no good, it ruins it.

On one hand you have the loyal and impatient fans, then the loyal and patient fans, thats not gonna change unless the mod is released and then everyone is happy. I’m doing my best not to come across as one of the impaient but just a short PR release about where it stands with some short detail would probably soothe the fanbase, if only for a short while. Although I understand that is not the devs problem as they are ultimately focused on finishing this epic mod we all are craveing.

Personally I’m glad its being given the proper attention to detail and time is deserves. This is no short game and the people working on it are obviously perfectionists and want this to be a trophy mod upon completion, thats whats important. But I dont see any hurt in giving the people a little 411 as to what they have been following so intensely for many years now. Its not that an update of some kind would take long to do, its just the team dosent want to devulge any news regrading progress for whatever reason, possibly just sheer surprise factor, who knows? (only them.) The moddb page hasnt been updated in over 6 months, since the apology of the blown 2009 release date. And until the mod releases, its always gonna be a two sided debate. Either way, I’m lookin forward to it, keep plugging away and best of luck.

Honestly, I didn’t look at ANY of the Youtube vids and only a few screenshots up until the blown 09’ release date. I was really worried about spoilers.

Whether they release new media or not, the mod won’t be done any sooner.

this thread is so sad. I’m sad for you!

lets go play Medal of Honor Multiplayer closed beta to kill time.

This is why.

I don’t know what’s so difficult to grasp, really I don’t.

Here’s some personal experience with “making stuff and showing it to people or not”:

When I create something, I hate showing it to anyone when it’s still not 100% finished. It’s because the first impression is always very important, and I want the first impression to be the best one and the only one. Therefore, I want the first impression to be that of the final product, not something that’s only 97% finished. With a project as huge as Black Mesa, it’s of course impossible to not show any of it for 6 years, however, I’m sure “the developers” only want to show what they’re the most proud of at the moment, and that isn’t just any random screenshot. The question here isn’t whether they have time to press F5, but rather if they are considering showing us unfinished work while knowing that the finished product should be out soon?

Personally, the closer I am to finishing something, the more I say “I won’t show any of it now, since people will get to see the proper, finished version soon anyway”.

If you read that post you surely know how normal gaming companies make games, they announce something give you a trailer some screens and than you shut up and wait till the release. My point is stop using the forum as a way of “bullying” the devs) you really should be gratefull for what screens we have because there is a lot of 'em

Imo I think that the devs made a good decision by not posting anything even though the wait is we might say tiring … and some kiddies get pissed off and post here crap only to get banned by the moderators …

In short shut your mouth and get the f*** out of here if you don’t like it.

Seconded.

Well, you’re right in my opinion, but on the other hand, I’m quite impressed about how many non-devs know exactly what the devs think, do and feel. In my four or five years of watching this mod and the forums, one thing I constantly noticed was that there are the newbies that want new media and upates and then there are guys that defend the devs actions and decisions at all costs, like if they’re gods and we’re not allowed to question them in any way (I mean Raminator is a god, but that’s another story). But seriously, all this “you beg for media = you’re a childish whiner and have to grow up” clichée blupp blupp is sometimes as annoying as those youtube guys.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
