Loss of Interest in BM?

For the most part, the dev team does not come here for very specific reasons. Basically… cuz they are busy doing other things. You know… Like MAKING THE MOD.

I (humbly) think that a good idea would be for the devs to choose one or two senior members of this forum to be their official spokespersons. That way those trusted members have direct contact with the devs and can set the eager fans at ease with regular updates. I too understand that this is a side project for the dev team, but the lack if recent information is a little bit disconcerting. I for one would like to play Half Life again (after several years), but I’m trying to hold off in hopes that this mod will be released soon. If the mod is going to be a long time coming, then I’ll just play the original. I would just like to plan appropriately.

Johnyo, everyone likes it when people say nice things about them. It has nothing to do with being desperate. Its just how we, as humans, are wired. We’re pack animals. We like praise. It makes us happy.

The fact is that this mod team seems to really like the praise and accolades they have (deservedly) received. The front page of the BM page is littered with positive feedback in 30 point fonts for goodness sake. I’m sorry, but once you’ve told everyone how great you are and how much praise you deserve, you need to live up to the hype.

Anyone losing interest, did does not understand this absolutely utopian project in the first place. Consider this.

1. The world is absolutely f***** up. Fact.
2. In this horrible world a group of people decides:

• to make a FREE remake of the best FPS ever
• in their spare time
• with the utmost love for detail and dedication.

Combine 1. and 2. Most people assume Black Mesa has to be released, if the devs said so, because they live in this fairy world filled with pink ponys and cake, and do not understand what it means to reach for the stars.

I assume that it would be a small wonder, if they actually released it. It was never likely to be released. The fact that there is a beautiful trailer and loads of vids and screenshots, already is astonishing. The actual release will be somewhere between the moon landing and the abolition of slavery probability wise. Keep that in mind.

I feel like it has only been yesterday that I found about Black Mesa. I mean… It’s already JULY but I still feel that BM has just started a month ago. Man… the forums keeps my patience alive… with all the funny arguments and trolls…

why don’t you guys post frequent media updates (like the Operation Black Mesa team does)? That could keep people from losing interest in the mod and destroy the rumors that the BM is dead…
