Losing framerate through dynamic shadows....

I have no problems running Half Life - Episode 2 with my Nvidia 8600GT, it runs smooth and im fairly optimistic that Black Mesa will work fine as well  - except for one little problem…everytime i turn on my flashlight in episode 2, i clearly notice a performance drop, and i know that this is caused by the dynamic shadows. I turned the shadows to medium in the option menu, so the characters wont throw any shadows anymore, and my framerate was a lot better again when i turned my light on. The problem is, i just love those shadows because they create a lot of tense and atmosphere in dark areas.
Does anyone know if i can tweak some options so the perfomance loss is not so heavy when the shadows appear, without turning the dynamic shadows completely off?

Turn models, textures, reflections and antialiasing to low. :retard:

Turn anti aliasing off.

Just really mess around with the settings until you have found what is best for your setup.
If you really want to keep the sexy, dark, mysterious, pure sex dynamic shadows, then turn down your models/textures. It should help improve performance.

I too noticed a drop in performance when turning on the flashlight. The thing I did to stop that from happening was to turn off a few settings in my graphics card control panel :retard:

tighten a cable tie around your dick untill nothing can come out and then try and piss

:hmph:

First of all…eeeuuhhh mr pervert…i wont tighten anyting!

Thanks for your suggestions, Antialiasing is already off, i try to turn down my model textures and see if it works…

Great, now you owe me a bladder.

If that doesn’t solve it,

-dxlevel 80

in launch options, and then turn everything to the fullest settings you can.

the fullest settings you can’t.

?

By what I said earlier, I meant set the Direct X level to 8, and then change the settings to the highest possible available for Direct X 8.

That’s what I had to do for Episode 2, but when I did it was fine.

I have this card and I don’t experience this problem.

Try these video settings:

are your drivers up to date?

EW EW TRILINEAR FILTERING. EW.
I use AF x4 seeing as it doesn’t actually affect my performance :3

If all else fails, get a new CPU.

:fffuuu:…now you are scaring the living headcrabs out of me - but it has to run smooth somehow :meh:

Yeah, with every setting to the lowest possible.

Do what I told you, set the Direct X level to 8, and then you can set it to the “highest low” settings.

In launch options:

-dxlevel 8

It will look better than the lowest Direct X 9 settings, but obviously not as good as their higher counterparts.

I already tried that out, and everything was faster - but there were no dynamic shadows at all, because it only works with DirectX9!

And my Club 3D HD 5770?

hahaha…fggt
