Looking for new CPU...

So I currently have an AM2+ socket AMD64 x2 +3800 OC’ed @ 2.5ghz (factory 2.0). Does anyone have a recommendation for an upgrade? something very overclockable is nice, and looking at around $100-150 mark.
The CPU is the last item on my upgrade chopping block… then it starts all over again :’(
oh yeah, mobo can take up to Phenom II.

pleasantries don’t seem to go very far in this forum, but thanks in advance

What board do you have? Does it support ALL Phenom II CPUs? As in full AM3 socket compatibility.

First update the bios then get the Advanced Micro Devices Athlon II X4 630 Quad-Core, it’s 2.8Ghz, and it’s good for am2 and am3 motherboards. It’s 130$ Canadian.

Check it out at Wintronic computers.

A Q8400 is good, you can overclock it to 3 GHz (stock 2.66).

But first check if your motherboard supports it, had to get a new one because of that.

But now it’s running fine at 2.9 GHz (my room has shitty ventilation)

Dude his mobo only supports AMD cpu’s.

Damn that is a shitty overclock, I’ve bought three CPU’s and 2 of them had better overclock than this with the stock cooler.

Currently running a 2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo at 2.98 Ghz, my other CPU is a 1.8Ghz (conroe core) Pentium Dual Core that ran non-stop at 2.88Ghz since I bought it and still works perfectly.

Anyway if you’re gonna do the switch to intel I recommend the E8400 (quite fast 3.00Ghz stock, overclockable to around 3.9/4 if you’re lucky, but you’ll need fast ram and an aftermarket CPU cooler)

Or if u want a quad core get a q6600, you can get it pretty cheap now and its a great overclocker. Mine is currently running at 3.5ghz stable on air cooling.

get a AMD Phenom II 945 or 955 BE they’re cheap, you don’t have to buy a new mainboard and they can be overclocked very well
