Let's talk about the Crowbar

Am I the only one here with the feeling that the crowbar is unreasonably OP? Even on hard, if I’m in melee range of something, I can kill it right goddamn fast, much faster than with anything short of explosives. It hits hard and in abnormally quick succession after landing the initial blow. This is off-putting and removes much of the immersion of having an “under-dog” weapon.

This is what I suggest;

1) Make each hit have weight, aka, each blow isn’t immediately followed with another blow moments after the initial. Allow 1-1.5 seconds between blows.

2) Make each hit have force, aka, minor increase in damage to account for the slower speeds.

3) Please remake the animations. Is it possible to have an actual swing associated with the crowbar, instead of some instantaneous love-tap that looks like it’d sooner annoy a headcrab than kill it? Make the damned thing swing!

I may be alone in my opinions with the crowbar, but it’s literally the only thing that stood out to me as a gameplay killer. Where the rest of the weapons have some fantastic love put into them, from textures to animations, it’s shocking to see the weapon iconic with the brand be the most lazily represented.

You’re not alone, I agree, mostly.

Suggested it myself:

Am I the only one satisfied with the ‘‘OP’’ crowbar, that is fast and powerful
mixing both Half Life 1 and 2 into one melee weapon?

I fucking love the fast swing. It’s exactly the way it should have been in Half Life 2.

It should have never changed from the HL1 speed.

All that bothers me is the animation - I like the one from HL2 more. If I could somehow get it into BM, then it’d be perfect :frowning:

What really bothers me is the animation, like Jokerine says. It’s like he taps the enemies, instead of swinging the shit out of them, like you would with a regular crowbar.

people over at gamebanana are already on this.

Great!

you could just copy the crowbar model from hl2

swing speed will have to be changed some other way, probably with a script

other than that, it’s just as strong as the hl2 crowbar

That’s the wrong way to recycle.

I will be lloking forward to what folks at game banna come up with can’t imagine anything for a while yet

They have a lot of textures for the crowbar already on gamebanana

Another problem with the crowbar animation is that it’s also off-center. The actual point of impact is above where it looks like the crowbar should be hitting. Honestly, I think that bothers me more than the stiffness.

why is that? using a perfectly good looking animation with good attack speed instead of the clunky BM one?

I just wish the damn thing didn’t auto-hit like Gordon Freeman was some PhD Samurai with a crowbar.

I always thought the stun stick from hl2 seemed a better swing animation… would be interesting if this could be modified to the crow bar for BM or a. combination of this and the hl2 crowbar anims

Just tested the HL2 crowbar model in BMS… it is Very small and swings super fast. DOn’t use it.

You can change the fov in the crowbar’s script file to adjust its on-screen size. There should be a cvar to change its attack rate, shouldn’t there?

For the Hl2 model?
