Launch Details Discussion

I suppose the release is split into 50-100MB rar-archives with an .sfv file.
It would be a pain in the butt if something gets corrupted if it was just one 3.03GB .exe file.

I don´t know about you, but i´ve never had problems with corrupted files using torrents. Other filesharing services on the other hand, not so lucky.

(edit: where the hell is the correct apostrophe on a mac-keyboard?)

What would you guess would be the time they needed to make BM “ready” for steams shop system?
Does anybody have a guess?
Apart from the client I really have no innersight into Steam. It would iterest me, what kind of logostics are or have to be invovled for a new publisher/Studio to get their product on steam.
This is an honest question.

^this

With a torrent, the way it works, leaves little to no possibility for corruption. It downloads the whole thing in little chunks (a few megabytes each, iirc) and checks it against the template. If it matches, it continues and downloads another chunk. If not, it tries again. There are several of these processes going on at once.

And even if you did get a problem, you can “check” the torrent and it will redownload any anomalous chunks.

And the more people download the game, the more people still can download the game without lower speeds and such

It’s a download infrastructure that allows for exponential self acceleration. I love it.

You are correct. But its not too difficult to write a simple code to slowly increase a percentage, having it reach 100% at a pre-determined time. It could possibly be a code like this that is causing the errors in percentage.

This is more than likely not happening. It’s just my way of answering why it’s not at 1,467% already. :stuck_out_tongue:

Time is on our side. Oh, that and Black Mesa’s awesomeness.

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you are launching at 7:47 PST in the morning? If not, i think your countdown timer is running fast.

It’s 8:47 AM, New Mexico time (Mountain Daylight Time)

Why 8:47am? Have you heard the tram ride lady in hl?

That is on purpose, 7:47 AM PST is 8:47 AM in New Mexico, the time that HL1 Starts at.
Edit:

Damn it Keresh :stuck_out_tongue:

This forum’s way too fast.

Hi,

I was just wondering… on the Steam Greenlight page it says Single Player only :frowning:

Is that correct and if so, what happened to multiplayer? Is it coming later?

Cheers

Who came up with that stupid name for a timezone?

Deathmatch will be coming later with the Xen patch. Cooperative mode was canceled outright.

It’s really not all that stupid. The Rocky Mountains, which is a major mountain range stretching across much of North America, is almost entirely within that timezone. If you want a stupidly-named timezone, look at the Central timezone, which doesn’t really stretch through the center of much of anything. At least the Mountain timezone is based on a geographical feature with an easy-to-remember location.

Cool, Deathmatch is all im interested in! HL-DM was the first game i played online, would love to play a newer sexier version of it

Aswell as playing your superb remake of one of the best games ever made… obviously

Good thing the rocky mountains are the only mountains on the world.

It works well enough for North America, and it’s not like these names are supposed to be international standards, as evidenced by the fact that there are two completely different Eastern Time zones, and the Western Timezone used by Australia happens to cover the EAST coast of China. Plus, many other timezones are named after individual countries with no regard to the countries north and south of them. That’s why there are like 13 different names for UTC + 8.

If you want something tailored for international use, that’s what the UTC standard is for.

Allright

Well, in that case, it really doesn’t matter if it’s rar or not.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
