LA Confidential… I think I said that wrong on two forums the last 12 hours…
I was watching Legend with Tom Cruise and Tim Curry, and I noticed a few things about it.
Things I don’t like:
The direction is terrible. Ridley Scott’s worst work. Too many closeups instead of wide angles, as if they are trying to hide piss poor set design.
Piss poor set design. Everything looks like it is on a sound stage. Nothing looks like it is outdoors. It looks like there is a low ceiling too.
Hideous costumes. Why doesn’t Cruise have any pants through the entire movie? I don’t want to see that much of his legs.
The tone is inconsistent. One moment it is trying to be childish, the next is dark and forboding with a jarring shift between.
Nothing seems natural. Not the set, not the characters, and definitely not the speech.
Soundtrack is one of my least favorite ever. I’m aware the European soundtrack is different, but I don’t care enough to hunt it down.
The fight choreography is almost non-existent. Not that you can tell much of what is going on anyway, with all of the closeups trying to hide everything.
The lighting sucks.
Things I do like:
Tim Curry in one of the best demon costumes ever steps out of a mirror and is one of the most badass villain badasses ever put on film.
The movie sucks. My parents were right to be watching Bad Santa instead.
watch clue with tim curry and christopher lloyd instead its super great
^yes yes
Watching Monsters U. Fucking hell this movie is beautiful.
Every goddamn frame of this movie oozes with MMMMPH
Yeah I love that movie, that scene in particular even started giving me the creeps they did it so well.
Watched MST3K: Devil Fish the other day. I think this one might be one of the best I’ve seen. “The director’s vision: lots of shots of things.” “Just because you CAN edit doesn’t mean you SHOULD.” “Sorry about that electrician crack earlier; my father’s village was attacked by electricians.”
Clue wasn’t on (that I saw), and I don’t own the DVD. So not an option. Besides, I went to bed right after this post anyway.
its on netflix
I don’t have Netflix.
I just got back from watching Frozen. Pretty decent movie, but my complaints are in the #191919 text:
GET RID OF OLAF!!!
Also, the pop songs.
That is all.
i know this is classist, but what the fuck, if you own a computer and have income there’s really no excuse
I had a month-free trial of Netflix. I didn’t find anything on it that would warrant the expense, to be honest.
It’s not the greatest for keeping up with the latest movies and TV shows, and it’s not an exhaustive entertainment library, but it’s awesome for catching up on older TV shows or just having a movie to put on when you’re bored or doing something menial. It’s more like an on-demand TV channel with a lot of stuff to choose from. So if your spare time is more scarce though then yeah it’d probably not be worth it. That or they just don’t have anything you like, which I find hard to believe but it’s possible.
Netflix seems to have everything that no one has ever even heard of and very few things worth watching in my opinion. It has it’s uses, however limited they might be.
I refuse to utilize any expense-incurring service which caters to people who make that mistake. It is inexcusable and oh god it’s hard to find good public transportation around here.
That is one of my all time classic favorites along with 1951’s ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ and 1962’s ‘The Day of the Triffids’.
You want the one made in 1967 with Andrew Keir as Quatermass.
Trivia info:
- James Arness, the brother of actor and star of Mission Impossible Peter Graves, and the man who played Marshall Dillon in Gunsmoke for 20 years, played the part of The Thing in 1952’s ‘The Thing from Another World’
- The 1952 film was also the very first film to use what’s called a ‘boo’ scene. Won’t tell you when it happens, you’ll simply have to watch it.
I saw Reindeer Games (2000).
Pretty good I guess. Somewhat fitting for the season.
For whatever reason (because I have no clue why it does it) my phone autocorrects its to it’s constantly. Apparently, the possessive form of it doesn’t exist to Apple. However, your unnecessarily insulting and angry reply is noted. Netflix does indeed have its uses, though very few and not really always worth the price paid for its services.
In topic: I watched Spirited Away for the first time since seemingly forever. Musta been 4 years now or so I think. It’s such a great movie, I’d recommend it to anyone who asks if they should watch it.
the hobbit 2 was kind of a mess
Don’t worry, I hate final destination too.
Watched Holes again for the first time in ages. Put a big smile on my face.
Also, not actually a movie (though it has become a movie), but I read The Road. It is super depressing. It really conveys the hopelessness and despair of that kind of world. I want all my friends who think post-apoc would be all fun and games to read it.
