Last Film You Saw

Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug. God damn, that was prolly the best one of the entire sextilogy.(?)

But also this seemed like a much cheaper installment too. Some shots were so ridiculously dodgy. One shot of Smaug didn’t even have motion blur, and that melted gold fluid simulation…I…egh :s . It was also a blessing because there was a much more spontaneous feeling to it that none of the other LOTR/TH movies had. It’s probably the most Peter Jacksony movie of the bunch. I got flashbacks to Dead Alive and The Frighteners watching this movie, and that’s a good thing. It’s funny. The guy has a splatter movie background, and it shows through his fucking ridiculously creative, yet oldschool Buster Keaton type visual gags. I love it.

Also, that ending was Halo 2 levels of bullshit. Don’t expect closure.

Now I’m watching Dead Alive in honor of the Peeda Jickson that was and never again will be.

So I must see, then.

you.

Him.

Yeah I’m inclined to agree with you, it actually was really good, much better than the last one for sure. Like most movies though, it was pretty lax about the effects of fire and heat, but it did make for some dramatic shots. One other thing: Didn’t Legolas still have arrows when he had the final showdown with the big Orc, or am I mistaken? I seem to remember seeing arrows in his quiver and then being confused as to why he didn’t just shoot him.

and I love me some well done playful dismemberment. This movie had it. Pity it’s PG13.

I want Peter Jackson to do another splatter goddamn it. Hell, I just want to see another splatter movie with the same energy he (and Sam Raimi, his only equal imo) had. Eli Roth tries(d) but his stuff is too slow and takes itself too seriously. I miss the Buster Keaton/ Charlie Chaplin inspired bloodfests of yore.

Outland sci-fi movie with Sean Connery. Pretty good for 1981.

Dream House

I felt the way the “twist” was revealed could have been better but afterwards it gets the quality back up. Was expecting something different from the movie but it was still pretty good.

Quatermass and The Pit, also known in the USA as 5 Million Years To Earth. A classic Hammer Studios production, that concludes that we are all descendants of a race that originated on Mars. Intelligently written and well acted. The limited special effects available at the time somewhat hampers what it could have been. However what they were able to accomplish for the time is really phenomenal. Nevertheless, it’s ahead of its time and offers a plausible and intelligent alternate viewpoint on how the human race came to be on earth. Unfortunately, the movie title is out of print and only used copies are available on the web.

In my view, should be easily included in the top 50 sci-fi movies of all time.

Sorry, sir, but you’re not allowed to post long-winded, formal reviews here. That’s k3nny’s job.

I’m looking this up and apparently there are many different versions. When did the version you watched come out and how long was it? There was a tv series and then the movie, but there was a thread on IMDB saying that there was a color version and a black and white version and maybe another one, but they never did get to a consensus about this.

I am offended.

Is that you?

Did Tiki lose his Russian-ness?

I just watched the Thing again. Probably one of my favorite horror movies. I didn’t really remember much of the beginning or end though, maybe I never really watched it all the way through. Fun fact: the entire plot of the movie is spoiled in the beginning if you speak Norwegian.

Anchorman 2. Kinda funny, but not exceptional in any way.

Stardust Memories (1980).

Kind of peculiar Woody Allen movie about being someone in the career of Woody Allen.

One character/actress reminded me of an ex of mine to a remarkable degree. The character she played, similarly mentally disturbed. The look in her eye and the shape of her face, actually identical by some metrics… I have seen her face enough to know it when I see it.

Eerie.

Riddick, new one. I actually thought it was really fucking good till the last five minutes, then… what

LA Noir. I love that movie. The main protagonists all grow as characters, the villains are all villainous, there is a death around the midpoint that shocked the hell out of me the first time I saw it. It’s a great film.

No, reports are he was a cunt, but the right kind of cunt.

Any relationship to the video game?
