Rise of the Guardians.
Even though some of the concepts might be a little childish, it’s a great movie.
Watched The Thing, the 1982 version with Kurt Russel with a bunch of friends.
Excellent movie, really underrated and a really good combination of gruesome effects and psychological horror.
That is, in my mind, tied with Alien for best horror movie of all time.
Saw Into Darkness again. I liked it much better the second time. Still think the first one was better, but Into Darkness is better than I originally made it out to be. I think it just maybe moves a little fast and has some odd pacing, and I needed to see it twice to understand it right.
Kinda spoilery, so…[color=’#151515’]I watched the Wrath of Khan, I figured there must have a been a number of references to that film in Into Darkness, but I didn’t realize just how many there were in both J.J. Abrams films. I should probably check out the original series to see if there were any other subtle references to them too.
Ah, thank you! I may just have to watch it today.
I think I was one of the last People on earth that got to see Django unchained. What to say about it ?
A typical Tarantino that isn’t your typical Tarantino. Sounds paradox ? I guess it was to me, then.
It had some lengths and the character Django itself wasn’t as deep as I thought he would turn out, but it was still effing fucking awesome.
The Humor was great (I was sitting almost the whole time with a smile or at least a grin on my face), the action was great and over the top (typical Tarantino), I loved the acting, especially DiCaprio and Waltz as Dr. King Schultz.
Some unusual settings / camera perspectives for Tarantino, too. A really nice plot with parallels to the (finance-)slave system today. All in all a great movie with really minor flaws to make it a masterpiece.
Alien holds up less and less every time i see it
Isn’t that true for most horror movies? Once you remove the element of the unknown, it’s not all that frightening anymore, even if the monsters are still scary or disturbing.
Or are you saying it wasn’t all that well made or that the characters’ decisions didn’t make sense or something like that?
To me it’s the other way around: Every time I see Prometheus again, I hate it more for being a Movie with great optics, but a fucked up script, terrible actors (except Rapace and Fassbender), pseudo-deep and pseudo-philosophical dipshit, a movie that had so much potential and turned out to be really bad.
Alright I quit my bitching…
Alien on the other hand I respect more everytime I see it, yet I’m also not scared anymore… but the choices, the philosophy behind the movie, the radical turn it made in its time (the only “aliens” there were known were from Star Wars, Star Trek or whatever, so there was the non-scary, fascinating, (partially) cultivated alien stereotype, not some ice-cold, bizarre, unknown, out-of-instinct acting killer machine).
I think still today it’s a pretty good movie. The follow-ups as well (except Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection maybe not to that extent)
Great optics? You mean visuals?
yep, ofc. Hadn’t my daily dose of caffeine, so my brain didn’t boot properly
Alien 3 is my fave
im watching ‘flubber’ right now starring robin williams. its a very bad movie
not to nitpick or anything but why did nobody care that dr flubber invented a fully sentient robot but everyone wanted to steal his extra bouncy rubber
Because movie logic.
at one point in the movie the robot projects a holographic ghost version of itself as a human woman and tries to have it bang a sleeping robin williams
Remember, in the Iron Man movies, all the government cares about is getting the suit from Tony (haven’t seen IM3 yet), not JARVIS, the AI that responds to natural language including idiosyncrasies sometimes even with sarcasm.
hhaha youre right flubber and iron man are actually very similar in a lot of ways
Just mentioning that movie logic and real world logic don’t always see eye to eye…
wacky eccentric genius invents powerful new energy source with incredible potential for destruction. evil capitalist tries to take it and use for evil. some flying around blah blah blah wacky eccentricities mess with genius’ relationship, some other stuff, doo doo doo, i cant exactly remember the plot of iron man or flubber even tho i watched it today but most of the main beats fit
