Laptop -> TV

So I have a laptop with a VGA out. I want to hook it up to my TV which only has scart.

I bought one of these, but it seems I need some sort of converter or something.
Any idea what exactly I need, and is it available for a low price somewhere?

Thanks.

Bah, not this again.

VGA and Svideo(and therein composite) use a completely different format for transferring video signal. It’s like trying to open a .ppt (powerpoint) file in photoshop. Sure they may both contain graphics but they are completely different.

you need a specific GPU that can output composite over vga, I would bet a million dollars you would get the same adapter included in the box when you buy it

and don’t try getting it to work, the best results you could get is a black n white screen that keeps scrolling up and down really fast

As I stated in the other post only way it will work is with an active converter like this or this. And rember this will be SD VHS like quality so about the only thing it will be good for is movies or emulation (games that were designed for TV screens)

yes i realized that (too late), my question was what i should get to make it work

guess i didnt word my post properly

looks like there’s no solution on the cheap :frowning:

and yeah it’s pretty much only for videos, so VHS quality is fine

$30 is way too much though :frowning:

get a TV with VGA in

but i like my TV :frowning:
oh by the way, my laptop also has HDMI out, but I guess there’s no simple (cheap) HDMI->RCA converter either?

analog:
coax cable/air(analog)
composite = s video
component ~ vga

digital:
coax cable/air(digital)
hdmi ~ dvi

yeah i’m not entirely sure what you’re saying (what do you mean by ~?), i’m not too knowledgeable about this stuff
my knowledge on this basically extends to the difference between analogue and digital

~ means almost equal

edited post

so in short i have no chance of connecting my laptop to my tv except with some expensive converter thing

buy a camera with TV out and point it at the laptop screen while its plugged to the TV
