Laptop Issues

What exactly do you need help with if you’ve already diagnosed the problem?

Check over your warranty information, and if your laptop isn’t covered anymore, buy a new hard drive. They’re normally pretty easy to replace and are relatively inexpensive, just make sure you get the right form factor (laptops are typically 2.5" 5400RPM SATA drives).

If the diagnostic said that, then most likely. And the problems you described are typical signs of a dying hard drive. It’s one of the most common hardware failures.

Hey at least you didn’t kill your laptop with a bad bios image, apparently, HP doesn’t let users recover from a dead bios, so my pavilion is a giant brick forever.

See if it’s still under warranty. If it is a hardware issue, you can get it replaced.

Starting via disk is a BIOS thing, and if you can get into Windows, chances are you can get into the BIOS. That’s where you’d change the setting for the boot order, and change it to boot from disk.

I’d recommend doing some diagnostics with something like Hyren’s Boot CD, because it sounds like a hard drive issue.

If it is hardware, just call up HP and ask for it to be replaced.
