Lagoa Multiphysics

Fucking incredible! Poor rabbits…

It’s kinda like how cinematic physics was impressive until you realize that it was pre-rendered physics, and not TERRIBLY complex physics at that. Though I guess they used it well.

reminds me of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-ATtrImCx4

its got nothing to do with “unlimited detail” and it’s not at all impressive (and not meant to be) unless you’re in motion graphics. if you’re in the motion graphics industry, you either say “hm, cool particle simulation middleware” or you say “my studio could use this” and you buy it. It’s a product demo for fucks sake.

Its nice to look at it and think “hey, that would be cool in a video game” though.

We will have it eventually. It will be cool, but we need to wait for developers to finish abusing it as a main game mechanic, and simply incoperate it as an interesting side feature to an already great game.

The buzzkill in this thread is incredible.

Because Half Life 2 was abusing physics. There will be at least a few games that use real time liquids well, and at least one that will use it brilliantly. Thats my prediction.

Half-Life 2 was far from the first game with physics.

Also, BioShock used “realtime” liquids fairly well.

I don’t recall seeing any real fluid physics in Bioshock.

Also, yes plenty of games used Physics before HL2, such as Hostile Waters, and Descent 3 to a lesser extent.

BioShock did not use any realtime fluids I’m aware of. There were scripted moments concerning water, but it never acted of it’s own accord.

I never said it was the first, but it was close enough to be in the modern period of abusing a technology, and of course uses physics better than any game since.

Hitman: Codename 47 had ragdoll. It came out 3-4 years before HL2.

And BioShock didn’t have real fluids, but they act more realistically than any other game I’ve played.

Which probably took hours upon hours upon hours of painstaking animation which could with this tech be done in minutes.

Anyway, since the Wii got released in 06, and in 2010 the other two consoles are just getting around to getting on that bandwaggon, the abuse of tech period is a bit longer than 4 years.

I misread the title of this thread as “LadyGaga Metaphysics”

If you took the physics away from Half-Life 2, it would be less of a game, but would still be very enjoyable. I wouldn’t call it abusing the physics, as the physics are incoperated well into the game. There will be games with physics as a central point, some will overuse it making the game less enjoyable in other aspects, then after it has went through that period we will start to see much better games.

half life 2 is just a series of huge see-saws with monsters in between basically

I was being sarcastic about it abusing it. I’m just saying it integrated physics incredibly and is an example of a way a new tech can be integrated well into a game, even while others abuse it.

tthats not true - they mix it up with reverse see-saws where you have to stack floating barrels underwater under the see-saw instead of on top of it.

i saw this video a couple of days before i found this thread. i have emailed to find out price even though i know it will be impractical, but they said that they haven’t decided what they should price it at.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
