Lets say that it’s the 1930s and there’s a big problem with the National Socialists in Germany. Suddenly on Facebook (yeah, it’s magic 1930s FB ) you find all your friends are posting a video about some guy called Amon Göth and how evil he is. Nobody really gives a shit about National Socialist Germany, the people there or the situation but they like to feel as though they are doing something to help; because as we all know, posting a video on facebook and then forgetting about it really helps solve problems.
Now, was Amon Göth really the source of the problem faced in Germany at the time or was he just a small piece of a bigger issue?
This is what is happening now. Lets skip forward to June 2012. If I asked half the facebook contacts who posted that Kony 2012 video to tell me who Joseph Kony is, most of them wouldn’t know what I was talking about.
It’s a quick way to feel good about yourself. To feel that you’re an activist and you’re somehow saving lives by posting a video on your twitter account.
But you’re not. You’re not helping in the slightest. People who want to really do some good should donate money to the Red Cross or perhaps volunteer in Africa. Those volunteers are the real heroes in this, not some faggot with a small penis who post a shitty video on FB.
