Their problem is what Europeans did over a century ago. We got there, stripped the land of most of its natural riches, raped the social balance, introduced organized religion and then fucked off again when shit hit the fan.
It’s not something anyone can fix, the only thing we can do is keep it on life support so we can feel better about ourselves for what our ancestors did many many years ago.

It’s not quite as simple as you make it out. It’s not as though they had no problems until the white man arrived. Things like slavery were already several hundred years well underway before we arrived there.
I do agree though that one of the problems was our insistence on forcing our system upon them. You must have a king and you must stop being nomadic and build towns. Be like us! It works.
Indeed, our system worked well for us in our temperate climate, but it doesn’t necessarily translate well to a place like Africa.
But that said, under colonial rule places like Zimbabwe prospered and were some of the wealthiest places in Africa. (I don’t just mean cash, I also mean food. With western farming techniques and the fertile land people were fairly well fed. And then Mugabe took over and facepalmed the whole country into starvation and general fuckery.
Although I’ve just read that things in Zimbabwe are slowly improving since the power share went ahead a few years ago. That’s some good news.

I don’t give a fuck about Africa (how harsh that doesn’t sound). they had a lot of time to develop and become more civilized but they still live in same piece of shit in what they used to. there always will be another “KONY” in Africa unless Africans change themselves.
It’s not as though the white man had no problems. And slavery has been an integral part of human culture for thousands of years, it’s not at all unique to Africa.
The shipping off of slaves to the new world greatly exacerbated the problem though.

And yeah, new world slavery and colonial times pretty much fucked Africa over. And it hasn’t stopped, either. Large parts of Africa are still having their natural and human resources exploited by corporations for profit, and their land ravaged by nations for strategic purposes.
I mean, it’s not like colonial powers just took some shit and fucked off, the power structure etc. are still heavily influenced by ex-colonial powers.
Assassin, there has been a lot of improvement in the living conditions of Africans over the past few decades, so what you’re saying is simply wrong.
At this point it is almost entirely Africans screwing up Africa though. You can blame colonization all you want, but most other former colonies in the world are far ahead of most African former colonies.

Indeed, I see where you’re coming from but I should raise the fact that long before the colonials arrived Africa had it’s own nations and empires with borders.
The Mali Empire was huge and included much of what is now Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Mali and Cote D’ivore. Next to the Mali Empire were the states of Mossi, Yoruba and Hausa. Each of these were independent kingdoms with a multitude of cultures and languages.
The dynamics of these states were no different to the states of Europe, ever shifting and changing.

Europe didn’t have fixed national boundaries until the early 1900s, before that it was a series territories owned by the large families of the Habsburgs, the Dutch Republic and the Bourbons. These mini-empires contained peoples of various nationalities and cultures and a numerous number of languages.
After World War I the map of Europe was artificially fixed. Prussia was disbanded, Hungary was vastly reduced in size and vast swathes of territory were taken and shared out between different countries.
These boundaries were fixed and although it partially resulted in a Second World War they have pretty much remained fixed and we now have the creation of Nation States. Yet despite all these major changes in boundaries the Europeans have coped and have done very well for themselves.
But as Mankyman6 has mentioned, for some reason Africa currently seems unable to adapt and stabilize. I wonder if it’s because they have a much stronger tribal instinct than other nations. The middle east has adapted to such things, as has Asia and both of these areas have also had the interference from White colonists. They were exploited as much as Africans, so why have they been able to get their act together while certain African nations have not?
Of course, we shouldn’t generalise as there are many countries in Africa who have managed to do very well for themselves, so the problem isn’t with the whole of Africa, just large portions.
All of this makes me wonder what would happen if all non-African countries left Africa alone. Could it be much worse than what has happened with outside countries involved? Maybe disease and horrible conflict would overcome most of the continents people. Maybe an equilibrium would be reached. I don’t know, but damn it would be nice not to feel guilty about my complaints about latency in video games, and how my clothes dryer is too hard on my nice clothes.
Every time you send a bag of rice to poor Africans, you put another African farmer out of business thus creating more shortages. Foreign aid is fucking evil.

Karamazov, I realise that (for the most part), but my point was that the boundaries have nothing to do with former territories or kingdoms, and were forced on them.
Also, no, Africa shouldn’t be “left alone”, they should be treated fairly, as opposed to imposing export taxes, forbidding import taxes, dumping our excess produce on them for ridiculously low prices, interfering in political matters, replacing democratic governments with dictatorships that favour the US/Europe, etc.
What Africans need is solidarity and fair trade. Solidarity so they can get their human rights and fair trade so they can become self-sufficient.
