Know Why Were In Afghanistan?

amidoinitrite?

Black people are all criminals and I hate them.

See how smart an unsupported opinion looks?

your analogy dosnt work for that statement, i said that they piss me off, while you said that you hate a black people. i never said that i disliked republicans, only that their opinions piss me off

sir, your argument is invalid

Nothing on their opinions here. Besides, you’re just getting into semantics. My point is that you’ve just put up a completely unsupported opinion to either appear smart or gain approval.

“x pisses me off” is a statement of opinion. “x are all criminals” is a statement of fact. Talking gibberish doesn’t prove that opinions you disagree with are somehow invalid.

Savatage: I am

Brilliant song about the origins of war.

Savatage: Doesn’t matter anyway

Song about arms dealing - from the same album.

typo in the thread title: not were, we’re

Oh no, it’s correct. Why was in Afganistan you see.

Who’s on first, What’s on second, I Don’t Know’s on third… Which position does Why play?

Hahahahaha, precisely.

EDIT: I was referring to this one. The Taliban signed an agreement to make this one in the 90s, but it was never started because the companies were afraid of the instability of the Taliban. Similarly at the moment the project has stalled because the proposed pipeline runs through Taliban territory.

Well I think its wrong to speak of AQ being “based” anywhere; AQ exists as a group of largely isolated and only loosely interconnected cells, so that if one cell goes down, the others still stay up. But the core of AQ, being OBL and Ayman Al-Zawahiri with another couple of guys, used Afghanistan as a stable base of operations. The presence of the Taliban gave them access to a state that was largely free of top-down government intervention, so they could do as they pleased.

I think its important to distinguish between the Taliban and AQ (not to say that you mixed them up). The Taliban were a group of the mujahideen that fought through the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. They set up madrassahs along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and used the refugee camps as recruitment centres. Then, when the Soviets withdrew, they used their influence in the region (specifically from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia) to take control of the country.

AQ hate the Saudi government, ever since Operation Desert Storm where the Saudis sided with America rather than accept AQ’s help.

Actually, the reason the Russian invaded was to protect their own ME interests. They feared that the socialist government in Afghanistan would be overthrown by increasing rebel activity after a tirade of unpopular policies, and they feared that this overthrow would lead to a spread of the Islamic revolution from Iran to the USSR. So they invaded to support the government and stop the Afghan people from taking over.

After the Soviets withdrew, the country dissolved into civil war as the various factions of mujahideen fought each other to assert control over the country. After the conflict, the Taliban emerged as the ruling party with control of about ~90% of the country. Most of the destruction of infrastructure occurred during this time, since before the violence had been concentrated against Russian military forces and the government was left intact. But during the late 80s and early 90s it was concentrated at just complete destruction. Any attempt to start controlling areas was met with violence, which meant that there was no state authority. That was where most of the permanent damage was caused.

Oh I wasn’t saying it wasn’t misguided, I’m just saying that the US saw it as a legitimate reason for invasion. Its especially misguided since the Taliban were actively reducing their poppy growth following a change in leadership.

And so why do you think we invaded?

Oil pipeline: you say the Taliban refused to allow it, I disprove that, now you say it wasn’t built because of regional instability. Progress.

AQ bases: You say Afghanistan was a “hub” and had to be invaded to “prevent further attacks.” I take issue with that, now your position is AQ is decentralized and that taking out one location doesn’t prevent further attacks because other cells pop up. More progress.

Those disagreements seem to be resolved so lets move on to further (and more relevant) points of contention: The argument that Afghanistan was a failed state and had to be saved from “civil war.” My issue with this framing is that the “civil war” was actually the overthrow of the Russian client state.

That’s the same reason the US is there now, right? To “support the government”… the “government” literally being a creation of whichever foreign power decides it’s in their interest to have a client state there.

Framing it as a “civil war” is propagandistic, it was a direct result of Russian policy. The destruction of infrastructure was a favorable outcome from the Russian perspective given the rejection of their client state. It follows logically that the government installed by Russia would collapse given the absence of Russian military force propping them up, just as the absence of US military presence would result in the collapse of the Karzai government. Remember the Iraq “civil war” in 2006? This is the exact same excuse used then, a pattern also followed by Vietnam and every other colonialist war.

“Why we invaded” isn’t the subject of this thread, why we are still there is. I think I’ve already explained my perspective on this war pretty comprehensively, and that’s a totally different topic.

Is this a demo post illustrating the “Watch the spelling” rule?

Since you’re using “we’re”, I assume you consider yourself to be American. So why don’t you write in American language? Why do you write like a friggin’ Ahnuld?

Why we’re in Afghanistan? We’re not.
I hate Americans who presume America = the whole world.

EDIT: Missed a page, but it’s still valid.
