keeping it fresh

I cant escape the feeling that this mod will be dead 5 months after its release so any ideas on how to keep it alive?

The devs are already making Co-op and deathmatch.

Along with the ability to make your own maps. And I think mod the game as well.

If by “mod the game” you mean replace textures, models & sounds, then yes, you can.

I think he said that because a lot of people think the source code will be released, which it will not. So you can only modify the content, but not code.

Who is this “a lot of people,” because i’d like to meet them and more importantly punch them in their stupid faces.

Was the original Half-Life dead after five months?

They should release a new $6 DLC weapon every five hours, from now until the end of time.

I played the original half life 1 trough 17 times from easy to hard, i can never get bored of it. And i think i can say, that i’m not alone with this, so this thread is not needed, if half life 1 didn’t die with goldsrc, it wont die with source engine.
And ofc the expansionswill help it survive too.

If you meen Oposing force and BLue Shift, the BM developers have said loads of times that they won’t make them as other teams are doing it.

edit: Also you have to remember BM is a remake of Half Life 1 so in theory it should be as successful as half life 1

Dude im a member and lurker since the first part of the developement, and I read the FAQ many times too, I didn’t mean Opforce or Blue shift by expansion, I meant the BM Deathmatch and stuff like that.

I haven’t even mentioned my ideas to include the later levels as secret unlockables which can only be accessed through the wiring of large amounts of money.

Singleplayer games usually have lower replayability than multiplayer games, but a game as great as Half-Life (aka Black Mesa) will not soon be forgotten. I know I’ll play the damn thing at least two to three times before shelving the game for a year or so.

And even though I’m not a particular fan of multiplayer, I’ll definitely give Black Mesa Coop and Deathmatch modes a try once they’ve been released.

Hopefully we’ll see some nice singleplayer mods to BMS too.

EDIT:

You should know that he charges $6 every 5 hours :stuck_out_tongue:

Deathmatch will keep it alive for me, i still play HL1 deathmatch, so do many people.
I even play Deathmatch Classic if I want to be the best on the server…

The proffesor farnsworth sound pack for the scientist will be worth it.

We shall seal it in a Tupperware Container and put it in the Refrigerator.

That’s probably not even necessary… after all, the Sauce has powerful preservative effects. Just look at HL2, it’s five years old and still fucking amazing.

Well, it doesn’t look amazing, but it’s not ugly, which is enough of a compliment. More to do with the design of the game itself than the Source engine- they didn’t try to overreach, like some games, and end up looking fugly in the future.

Well, yeah. It’s a modular engine, we probably won’t get Source 2 till mid-next decade.

We’ll have to wait until EP3, it’s the only thing I think that can explain why the episode is so late.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
