keeping it fresh

All cinematic videos (like the one for L4D2) are rendered in Source + they are working on updating the rendering system and implementing support for DirectX 10/11.

There is no need for a new engine as long as all features they need can be implemented into the modular kernel. And that’s a method I totally support!

The topic graphics is also totally over-hyped in my opinion.
HL2 is and will always be a beautiful game. I don’t need realism-like graphics at all.

amen

Agreed. I love the Source engine graphics, I hope they don’t get changed too drastically any time soon.

idk i was just playin l4d2 demo and its def showing its age compaed to ue3 games or whatever at least on xbox

Source definitely needs a little spice in the graphics department - it can hardly be called a current-gen engine at this point, although it is certainly a flexible and admirably open platform.
For example, there appears to be limitations with rendering normal mapped surfaces. This is totally unacceptable in current gen games, as normal maps are quickly being surpassed by even newer tech.

They’ll get around to fixing it up, It’s still the best damn overall engine out there for FPS games. (Screw the Unreal engine, it has goblins!)

If there’s co-op in the mod, then the life of the mod can be extended indefinitely with custom maps.

If there’s singleplayer then the live of the mod can be extended indefinetly. They’re including an FGD.

“Mod the Mod”

Source engine may have aged, but Valve do a good job keeping it going this far. Look at L4D2, up the model detail, and it’s still awesome with some different shaders. And TF2, just look at it.
.

Yes, but if they add co-op then it’ll be extended even more, otherwise you’d have to change CVARs to try and get co-op single player to work.

How about L4D2?

Source Engine: 10, Unreal Engine: 7.

Yeah, that would mean Psyborg works waaay under standard-loan AND if 2 people buy the DLC, they make profit. So. Good Deal. :3

I might have fun mapping for this maybe make one with both tentacles and mortars one can only dream

I heard that the devs will include a forklift race around key areas of BM in the deathmatch release and the The Last Stand mode from DoW2

If this is released soon I will play it all the way through seven times.

Nah, joke, i will play it everyday.

Fongpalm ftw.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
