I've created a new band

Well, good evening gentlemen and ladies. Well, I’m pretty excited, and figured I’d post here about my news. Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of being invited into a band. They’re a grunge/punk/rock band, and we’ve started about two weeks ago. Currently, we’ve been working on two songs. One, called Downwards Spiral, is a little on the unfinished side, and the other, which for now is called Untitled Finale, is a little more polished.

Neither of the songs have lyrics yet, as we’re still testing out our “sound”. I’m the bands drummer, and so far, I think I’ve done well. I’m 17, live in Parma, Ohio, and the band is Secrets of a Hollow Earth.

As I said, I’m 17, the guitarists are 18/19 respectively, and our bassist is 21. We’re all passionate about music, and we’ve all been playing since we were children (albeit, not together, and nowhere near as organized).

Be aware that I’ve been arranging as well as tweaking the music itself, so it’s not a true representation of our skills.

A picture of me, taken last night at 3 AM, trying to grind out some fillers…that sucked. Horribly. :jizz:

The music I’ve so far arranged and tweaked can be found here-in;

None of it is really finished, but if any of you have input on where to take it from here, possible voice-sound-alikes that would fit the music, or anyone feels like taking the reins on writing some lyrics (with credit, of course), please, feel free to poke your head in.

EDIT: Name of the band changed courtesy of “hercule poirots nutsack”. +1 rep.

Who the hell are you?

Pretty kickass sound, albeit generic, but nowhere near as generic as your band’s name.

If I were you I’d employ use of an electric tambourine and change the band’s name to something interesting.

I’m curious, are you familiar with a game called half life? If so, how do you feel about it and if not, why are you here?

As for a fitting voice, Issac Hayes. Shame he’s dead.

and to be honest, your music looks promising

and like what Ramirezoid had said, change the band name

Just what the world needs, MORE Grunge/Rock.

It just… feels too much like a Punk-O-Matic song… But… Uhm…

Hey guys, what’s going on in this thread? Comin’ here to watch a cockroach get roasted… let the flaming begin! munching popcorn

Melodically its extremely boring, but the musicianship is surprisingly competent. Should sound good with a vocalist. Overall you guys are way the hell better than the punk band I played with in highschool.

It should probably be “Downward Spiral” and not “downwards,” unless you were specifically trying not to have the exact same name as the NIN song.

Gotta love the dicks that just ask who you are and don’t even take the effort of listening to your music.

It sounds pretty good really. Some things could still use some cleaning up but it sounds good generally.

There’s often a few things that sound wrong. Especially at the start Downwards Spiral the bassline often does not seem to match with the guitars, or the other way around. It’s also just the 2 guitars that often do not seem to coorperate with eachother, generating a sound that seems to be off tune.

But yeah, your band name ideas are pretty terrible. I’d suggest putting a little more thought into something less generic.

good band names:
Satanz Homoz
mad skink day
achmed’s fancy
secrets of the hollow earth
sexy pat robertson
fartclub
triceraballs
dazzlesphere
killhell whatever

How 'bout Key Stroke?

Anyway, first off, WHO ARE YOU!?

Second, you’re music is indeed promising. When you said you were 17, I got a bit worried, but then I listened and was proven wrong. A bit messy at points, but you just started, so you’re sure to shape up with time.

I guess you guys scared him away, happy now?

:stuck_out_tongue:

Haha, no, not scared away, I had school. Yes, band name would be quite troublesome…although I do like the name Secrets of the Hollow Earth (a change might perhaps be in order). Thanks for the input Daedalus, it was pretty insightful. I will definitely take a lot of this to heart, and of course I will try to improve me mixing.

As to who I am, I am one of the lurkers who sit around on these forums and read your silly posts of meat-spinnaz, the epic temp ban-hammers, and flaming over HALO vs. Halflife. But in any case, of course I love half-life, and the hope of a release before 2010 had me quite excited. But, in any case, delays should be expected when the Developers have deadlines and a real life outside of a fan project. You shall all probably see more of me.

And my offer still stands. If anyone would like to write some lyrics, perhaps become a vocalist, graphic designer for band tee’s, or anything along those lines, feel free to PM me. As a fledeling band, I do not expect much, but anything given will be much appreciated, as well as get more than worth it’s weight in gold (and credits!).

And by the way; I love trolls. But sorry, I have no toll-money. Please go back to living under your bridges/rocks/basements. :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT:

I will change that quite soon, mattemuse. It was actually brought to my attention today that the name was the same as the NIN album. Big oops.

Based on your photo I think you should change the band’s name to something Harry Potter related and exclusively perform Harry Potter themed music. The world is waiting for Harry Potter Punk Rock.
