Is this why nothing gets done at Valve?

Check out this story from a fired Valve employee:
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/Valve-Weird-Paranoia-Jeri-Ellsworth-Hardware-Steam,23426.html

What do you think? Do you think Valve’s famous “dream-job” environment might actually be hindering their work? Was it a mistake to not establish an official management system and allow an unofficial one develop?! WILL WE EVER SEE HALF LIFE 3???

Obviously Jeri Ellsworth was spying on Valve from the inside to find the weaknesses so she could afterwards get “fired” and then send all the information to EA so that EA might find a way to destroy Valve and then buy the remains of it once they’ve killed it.

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST FOLKS.

It sounds like that’s not the full story.

Probably not, but however close to the truth it is, I’d be interested to see how Valve responds to it.

Well, six years later and not even a fart from a next half-life game. Also each time as of late a gaming convention goes by, it’s just “steam business” instead of game announcements or engine presentations. I honestly think they are behind competition, Source 2 is needed at this point and another AAA game soon, since there’s no known project in works currently after Dota 2.

If 2013 passes without any updates about anything half-life related, I will start losing my faith in Valve, I think. But in the end, it doesn’t really make a difference.

She probably complained about being sexually harassed and then she was fired

If that were the case I’d be pretty pleased if valve went out of business

She’s never wanted to work for Valve, rejected their propositions several times. She finally agreed when Gabe convinced her that Valve was serious about hardware. She had created whole lab and started to love that place and after a year they just fired her whiteout a real reason.

Quite ridiculous.

This will be Valve’s downfall if they don’t get their shit together.

troubling times for valve always means a new half life game…(remember the hl2 leak and all that shit? valve nearly went out of business that time because of pissed off fans)

valve will probally release half life 3 as a last resort in times of crisis
i hope the best

if there is a next half life, I just hope they get it right the first time and not need to update it constantly like they are still doing with source

Oh boy, I can not agree more. I’m fed up with those updates.

sven coop standalone anyone?

This doesn’t really surprise me at all.

I think the fact that we have seen several projects other than Half-Life 3 is actually proof that this person is full of shit:

If this were true, all their resources would be devoted to Half-Life and they would have been churning out spinoffs regularly. On the contrary, almost everything Valve has done in the meantime has been experimental and risky. Hell, they even hired an experimental psychologist.

I bet the project was scrapped because the steam box couldn’t compete with the low prices on consoles.

Remember the outrageous price of the Piston?

To me it sounds like perhaps she wasn’t getting along very well with the other employees, had a bad attitude or something, and after being fired started raging against the company.

But this is all speculation, so I’m not gonna give this much credence until we hear Valve’s side of the story.

^this
Sounds like a verbal fist fight so far, cuz one persons butt hurt over something done to them.

Gabe even let her keep her hardware design, which is something companies very rarely do.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
