Introducing The Test Chamber, The Black Mesa Livestream Show

I don’t see why I would have to stop you, as it isn’t harming us in any way.’

Also, here’s the official announcement of the stream:

Very nice. Was about to ask when it would be  Looking forward to it

Great patch. I love every single change. Keep going with the good work guys!

Can somebody give a brief list of the changes that were being mentioned? I hadn’t had time to watch the stream. thanks!

Adding new MP Map, dm_stack
Adding the G-Man as a MP player model.
Zombie Scientists and Guards have new, unique, zombie viewmodels in MP.
Adding Voice Chat in MP

awesome! thanks for the quick answer! looking forward to it!

Loads of other misc fixes and tweaks too, and some nice MP gameplay refinements. In particular - Crossbow/357 zoom is now instant! Woohoo!

When will you do the next stream?

Today, June 25th at 4pm EST / (8 pm GMT +0).

^ 2 hours from this post.

We’ll be covering the basics of hammer. How to set it up, what buttons do and hopefully we’ll be making a full room.

Interesting topic, though not one I’d choose, since every guy and his mother already has a tutorial on that on every HL2 community ever. Meh, I’m sure it will be amusing, at least.

We’re putting together a tutorial series (i’ll mention this in the stream) on how to use hammer, compile models for Black Mesa, etc. etc. So this is part of it.

Kind of for those who are entering into the world of modding through Black Mesa and gives it something a bit more Black Mesa Oriented.

I’m totally open for topic suggestions, btw.

deathmatch is so fun :>

That was actually my first real DM match, in addition to the first time I could attend the stream. Fun stuff, but my latency wasn’t doing too well towards the end, there. Both game and stream weren’t really functional for me at that point. :c Anyway, nice fragging w/ you all.

Wish I could offer some, any decent ideas I could have had you’ve already done or thought of, I’m sure. Maybe something will come later. Seems like you’re going in the right direction regardless.

If you think I thought of them, tell me 'em anyways, as I probably haven’t thought of 'em.

I suppose it may be a bit hard to do many different types of topics, because with an hour, unless you get cyclical or alternate each stream, there’s only so much time for everything.

I think the tutorial series is a good idea, provided you’re efficient with time and information. And also maybe give it extra value by touching on important topics that tend to be left out of tutorials. Though maybe this type of thing, at least in detail, is better for a video series than a bi-weekly stream. Oh, and if/when you get to models, I’d recommend recommending Crowbar for compiling. Easy to use, less room for error.

Personally I’d love more of this type of focus on the content creation/creator side of things. With the Patch overview, QA and community playtime, most of the major things BM-related are covered, so if you’re not doing a tutorial or showcasing a workshop item, there may be room to talk about content creation itself, future plans, etc.

A developer commentary-type bit could also be nice. Just little bits of behind the scenes planning and whatnot on a given map or model or what have you. I’d be sort of surprised if you don’t have lots to tell about a variety of topics. The tester-in-a-dumpster bit was entertaining to hear, so you could have a segment dedicated to similar topics. It could also be just a good way to fill up extended silence during the MP matches.

As a more general bit of feedback, there were some instances where you’d answer a question without actually relaying the question. Often the answers were detailed enough that you could piece together the gist, but in some cases it could leave you completely stumped. For example, the staticprop lighting + bumpmap question. Without context, it’s unlikely that anyone that didn’t read the question would understand what you’re talking about. Particularly problematic seeing as the QA is during gameplay, when no one is really focused on the non-game chat.

I didn’t think of a developer commentary thing. I’ll see if we can do something with that.

And yea, I’m working on “Saying who asked the question > Reading said question > then answering it” … so bear with me on that.

No worries. It was fine for the most part.

Can you invite top players from HL1DM, AG and HL2DM to let them play a 3on3, 4on4 or 5on5 on the testchamber stream (on a password protected server)?
While they play you could spectate them, comment on their playstyles and answer questions from the twitch chat. After their match you could interview these players what they think about your game and you could discuss their opinions and suggestions to improve BMDM further (what they think can be improved, what is great already and what needs to get changed/added/removed)

Edit3: Maybe you can do it when development of BMDM is more advanced.

I did not follow the last live stream, because I already know the basics of hammer and so i found it not that helpful… also I think it took quite a lot of time to explain these… building a cube a spawn and a light can be done faster… But yea… I watched the vod and hoped to find answers to some interessting questions… But there weren’t many questions…

Edit: Another suggestion for the stream: Can you please change the settings for the stream? I have 100 Mbit connection but your stream stops sometimes and needs to load.
I run my stream with Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) and I use the following Settings --> Encoding: Encoder: x264, Use CBR = enabled, Max Bitrate = 2400 (maybe you can higher the bitrate a bit… but I suggest to go not too high for a smooth stream-experience), Enable CBR padding = enabled and Settings --> Video: Custom = Native res (full hd), Resolution Downscale = 1.5, filter = bilinear (fastest), fps = 30, disable aero = enabled

Edit2: Another suggestion… This time about the voice spammer in your stream: Not sure if this is planned (I think it is, because it’s kinda an obviously needed feature)… but I think it would be great to be able to mute other players via clicking them on the scoreboard. I’m also not sure how voice chat currently works in team deathmatch, but it would be cool if it was only team voice chat in tdm and spectators should only be able to talk among themselves (if it isn’t currently in the game already)…

Update guys!

There will not be a Test Chamber this next week, I’ll be out of town.

Also, the last episode of the Test Chamber is Rendered. I just need to get it uploaded to the channel. I haven’t forgotten, I’ve just been busy with finishing up another project.

Will be up in the next couple of days.

REALLY sorry for the delay!
