You mean this? $99.99 awesome :awesome: .
Edit: @above: which do you suggest?
HD5850(close to the GTX470 with performance) or HD5870(slightly better than GTX470)
both have a much lower power consumption and stay cooler -> less noise from cooling fan
Hmm, 5870 is about $70 more. Maybe. Would it work with everything else I have?
yes, of course
Depends on how much the discount is. You’re saying it’ll run cooler than the graphics card I already have picked out?
Edit: You know what? I’ll get a $100 drop if I buy the W7 OEM which’ll pretty much balance out the cost of that graphics card. Awesome.
Here a temperature comparison of some cards(sorry, it’s german, but you should still be able to read the temperatures in those charts)
Last = under load
EDIT:
noise comparison
Holy shit! 33 C compared to 61 C… Well, that kind of makes up my mind for me.
Edit: Nvm, I read it wrong, wait a second.
Edit 2: Looks like about a 20 C difference all around, pretty large.
They usually keep the fanspeed at auto… I always crank up the fanspeed to the highest when gaming and my GPU doesn’t go over 70 C
Also, don’t forget your motherboard is mATX
my 5870 never gets over 75°C at 40% fanspeed
What does that mean? Is there something wrong about it that I need to know?
I don’t know what he is trying to say, the mainboard size shouldn’t be a problem
Unless you save on a case and build the PC in a shoebox.
Yeah, I agree with the nuclear fission statement. My 5870 idles around 36°C (in an environment that’s around 82°F). Running FurMark for 10 minutes, it maxes at 75°C (fan on auto). 5870 def. better investment in my opinion. Especially with a smaller case, you don’t want to boil eggs via your GPU
I’d also recommend the Professional version of Windows 7. Not a HUGE deal, but the professional version of Windows is generally better than the home version that comes bundled with craptastic storebought PCs.
I’m sure that a fresh install of Home Premium won’t have any crap on it. My supervisor said he’d burn me a copy of Ultimate but I’ll still most likely get the Home Premium OEM. I don’t want to bother with the hassle of a pirated OS.
And would you guys recommend a mini tower, mid tower, or full tower?
Mini tower is good for LAN parties as they are usually not very heavy. Cable management might be an issue, large graphics cards and CPU coolers might not fit.
Big tower is usually very heavy and expensive, but does provide room for great cable management, lots of room for graphicscards, CPU coolers and easy installation of the motherboard. They also have superior airflow depending on the amount of fans you’re using.
I prefer big towers
Hm, so I was talking to a guy I work with and he said that the lower the number in the latency then the better the RAM. The ones I picked were 9-9-9-24 which he said wasn’t very good. Also, the discounts aren’t as large as I would have hoped. Looks like I will have to pay around $1500 .
9-9-9-24 is indeed not good for 1333 MHz DDR-3 memory, you could easily go 8-8-8-24 or even push it to 7-7-7-24
btw I also have a big tower but it really comes down to what you prefer (if you’re a guy who goes to LANs then I suggest not to take a big tower for example)
yeah, timings of at least 8-8-8-21 for 1333MHz DDR3 are good, anything above is mainstream.
I have OCZ Platinum DDR3-1333 with 7-7-7-20, but I couldn’t find them in the shop you order from.
EDIT: I go to LANs but I have a Big Tower, my PC weights about 18kg
Well at least you don’t have to worry about someone running off with your PC.
