It’s not necessarily there. If you create the folder it should work. If it doesn’t exist then the game will just load textures from the gcf.

That’s not what I said. I said the non-lite version or the normal version (heavy version? whatever you call it) will still allow you to turn off the HD character models if those are your only complaint. So if lite version isn’t working you can still download that and turn off the terrible HD character models.
Because he expects 99% of people to use the included installer and the installer is designed to work with the .zip file. If you unzip it and move things around you’ll prevent the installer from working which would confuse most of the people installing the mod.
ok then. but two things, one, can someone give me a detailed run-through of how to extract the files, 'cos last time I screwed it up (I know how you actually extract them, but I need a detailed & thorough explaination and two, how do you turn off the shitty HD models, as well as the unecessary new soundtrack?
I honestly liked all the redone models, other than Alyx who even the creator says needs more work. If you have 4gb of ram to spare, just grab the mega version and be done with it, the game may not be exactly the same, but visually the improvement was completely worth it. Additionally since it is a mod you should technically be able to have both versions installed at the same time and find which is better for you…
(I only ran CM 8 and that was before lite version, so I had to do some creative settings changes to get it to even do anything, and I can say even not getting everything the changes are awesome.)
I wish they’d just go and figure out how to make a good high definition valve alyx instead of miss titsmcLima, and give her some decent clothes. I usually went for the nano-suit version because: A: it was the least horrifically perky of them and B: because regular alyx looked out of place with hq-Kleiner and Eli. And what the fuck was with those jackets they gave all the females?
But putting extra in-yo-face boobs aside, it was really not a bad modification at all. I loved what they did to alot of the levels, and if your computer can handle it, it really adds to the immersion. They got rid of a lot of the 2d tree backdrops in MANY areas and replaced them with entities, and foliage-d up the whole damned thing. Sometimes it’s excessive, but hey, nobody around to trim it. And the fact that they made it so the oddly fast night-day-night sequence from Ravenholm, along the coast, and to Nova Prospekt one LONG night, made more sense in my book. The latest update did something I am very angry about though. Up until the latest update, the Episode 2 vortigaunt-antlion showdown around Alyx had an, albeit modified, original HL2 track, Vortal Combat, I believe. They removed it in favor of a movie track, just like they did all the other. While in most cases, it didn’t hurt the game, it really struck a blow to me.
But all in all, map enhancements = yay, character enhancements = nay.

Well, it’s the beta, but you can download the “whole” thing at once.
I think there is a patch, where you can just overwrite this one, to the final version.

If you turn off all the immersion breaking HD character models, it creates a nice change that makes the game just different enough for more fun on a replay.
yeah, in case I didn’t make it clear enough, I only wanted the graphical improvements, that’s why I was getting the light version.
